As far as I'm concerned you've just described Android or Windows Phone for that matter. Come on people let's have something a bit more original than the above. Whilst that claim may have had some merit a few years ago that really is no longer the case.

This is why so many people have a go at Apple users, they constantly trot out the same outdated mantra time after time.

OS wise there's barely a pin to put between all three.

Whilst you don't have to justify your purchases to anyone why not dispense with all the guff?

I agree with most of your points, but I disagree with the first sentence here. WP I agree totally, Android on the other hand still has a long way to go to be a proper, smooth, unified OS. This is coming from someone who's spent the last 18 months with an HTC One.

I'm now trying to decide whether to go back to WP and a Nokia 930 or go for an iPhone 6. Just depends if the screen doesn't let it down when I go to look at it...

You'll never "win" against certain members on here however, they are well and truly entrenched and have been for a number of years, just like the more recent Android entrenchment.

As said previously I use iMessage from my iPad and I too have iTunes Match plus an iMac plus Apple TV. None of that prevents me from using and enjoying Android.

This is true. I personally keep all of my messages and notifications from social media to my phone and I put my iTunes stuff easily onto my phone. Many of the android handsets come with software that allows it. Sony Bridge is a good example.

But, it is slightly easier and less hassle to keep to the ecosystem. I also find the overall experience of iOS to be more polished than Android.

I really like the curved design for the front glass on the new iPhones. :)

edit: Had a little read of the thread, so here goes..

I miss iOS for the simple things. Not finding my homescreen has gone weird, an icon has randomly moved up the bar above it pushing the icon above that even further up the screen, having "remove *bin icon*" randomly at the top as the launcher has gone mad again (only going after a restart with nothing provoking this to happen), being able to just use a single cable for the phone and iPad (yes, some of us find that useful as even on .ac I find syncing far far far slower) and being able to walk into either of the two local Apple stores and speaking to someone about a problem and how i'd get it fixed. With HTC, as far as i've seen and been told, i'd be better off going and buying another phone.

The photographers among us have obviously known this for years but it's still lost on the majority of users and so many manufacturers still push it as the most important specification.

You only have to look at how much Nokia tried to hype their 40mp (or whatever it was) Lumia thing. Yeah right, who gives a toss about 40mp when the sensor is the side of a pin-head

I thought that was one of the best camera phones out there?

Was actually very interested to see Apple's "Focus Pixels" thing during the keynote - basically the same technology Canon have in the 70D and forthcoming 7D2 and brings fast phase-detect AF to phones - a genuine innovation and improvement rather than the boring old "jack up the megapixel count" rubbish from most manufacturers.

I do hope you mean that phase detection is an innovation rather than Apple's use of it is. Sorry if that's a silly question, hard to tell in these threads.

Either way, the GS5 already has phase detection and it's very quick indeed. so you should like it :p

I can name many reasons why I'm jumping ship back to iPhone / IOS again...

Build quality
Design passion
iOS Simplicity
App quality
App uniformity
Reliability
Phone Hardware quality (yup even compared with Andoid HW it's top notch)
Camera quality (S4 is junk, megapixels are not the be all and end all)

It's a no brainer for me... I'm afraid all Android does these days is annoy me, and I can sum it up in one word 'CLUNKY' :)

you pay ya money take your choice, we are consumers... we all have our different needs. I don't need to faff with a dam phone, I just want it to work.

Were you not disappointed with iPhone 5 range? I'm not an iPhone user but i dont think the 5s is as well built as the 4/4s looking at the wife's side-by-side. She thinks the same too. Still well built, mind, but they dont seem as far out there in front of other devices as the 4's. Dont know if that's just the lack of weight or something else though. Perfectly acceptable device but i dont know if build quality is such a pro these days.

I have no allegiance to one or the other. I'm downgrading to an iPhone 6 from a Nexus 5 just to see what the experience is like. If I like the phone I'll stick with it but if I don't feel I'm getting my money's worth I'll return it and wait for the Nexus 6.

I used to be tied to FaceTime, iMessage etc but now most people I know use hangouts. People at work don't understand how I can switch one from platform to the other so easily, I just don't have too much invested in either so I can switch around without being tied down.

I think he's saying [Jony Ive] they're implementing an actual innovative improvement [/Jony Ive] rather than playing a numbers game.

Ooo fancy!

I realise that but hope that at some point maturity will win out. However, as usual when they have lost the argument they then resort to insults and school yard tactics as per Jobe.

It's this sort of Apple user that so damages the brand in rational peoples minds.

I won't pay silly money for a smartphone whatever the brand or OS.
Oh! Caged lest I forget, you can text instead of iMessage, it works quite well, even on an iPhone.

Don't buy one then, problem solved.

And I didn't realise I can text message an iPad user in a foreign country

If you have no idea why people have made certain purchasing choices then it's a pretty bad idea to criticise them for it, or worse imply somehow that they are stupid for not going for what you would have chosen.

Oh dear, I can smell it even from this distance.

You're living up to the Android user on the internet stereotype brilliantly.

"I use an iPhone because I like x feature"
"But they are overpriced! You can achieve almost the same thing with more effort with this workaround!"

iPhone 6 128gb ordered but not set on it due to the size, I feel now may be the time I may invest in a z3 compact but I will see how it is, I've been ios since 3GS so I'm worried I may struggle to adapt to android though all my iPhones have been jail broken so I may like android ha
