is it more likely it is the phone or the network that causes Youtube etc to be slow and buffering all the time
ie would a newer model get better speeds with the same sim?

no problems when using Wifi
was just reading on the Three website that the iPhone 4S can't do the faster 3G HDSPA?? something like that

4S supports up to 14.4mbps.

It must be the cellular connection.

Run the speedtest.net app to find out the downstream speed when you're having issues with YT.
