Assuming everyone has the cash for high quality produce, and they don't.

I friend of mine has a rescue dog that was fed on soup only.
Not because the owners were cruel, because that was all the owner could afford to eat for themselves.

If they could only afford soup, should they really have had a dog in the first place?

i have an oddly gross question, does fresh as in just milked 5 minutes ago milk, taste any different to the pasturised bottled on the stuff or is it the same?

Never had it that quick but after it's been chilled in the bulk tank its the best tasting milk;), forget the bottled stuff. As for the cream on top, you'll never taste better.

then they need to responsible and re home the dog. iirc a dog cant even digest carbs

I thought that was cats? However, my point was in response to "in the first place", as that logic doesn't address people who fall on hard times.

Feeding a dog, soup, seems off either way and I am having a hard time buying that they literally couldn't afford anything else. Assuming they were buying tinned soup, they more than likely could have afforded dog food, even if it was the crappiest of crappy dog food.

Whilst I understand the logic, it doesn't address a situation where they've had a dog for years but only recently fallen on hard times.

I suspect the anecdote is somewhat exaggerated. The chap could get help if he was in that bad a situation. There used to be an allowance for certain circumstances for a pet dog if you were in receipt of benefits, homeless or in significant difficulty. I'm not sure if it still exists, but nonetheless there is help out there, not to mention the ethical thing to do would have been to rehouse the Dog, even temporarily if he truly couldn't feed it.

Yeah, I would expect it's been exaggerated, as with my previous post, I just don't buy that they literally couldn't afford dog food in any shape or form.

I try to buy all my dairy from organic suppliers in the vain hope, the farming methods are like those you describe.

Organic food has nothing to do with the welfare of the animal. The standards of its wellbeing should be no better or worse than animals on non organic farms. You are right dairy farms are typically worse than beef farms. The Halstien bull calf's are typically shot at birth and the miking cows are worked so hard that they are only good for 3 lactation so are culled for their meat after 5-6 years. Beef cows live a easy life, rearing a calf each year with a working life of 12-16 years. The calf's are usually weaned at 6 months and sold for their meat at 2-3 years.

All our Holstein bull calves are sold at the Market, they end up being reared for Beef.

Our cows exceed three lactations. Some are on their 7th at the moment.

Where do you get this stuff you type? It's seriously annoying.

Propaganda vegan websites probably, I can't think where else all this rubbish would be from.

Am I right in thinking that supermarkets are soon to be able to sell 'gold top' milk again due to a change in regulations?

Huh? When was 'gold top' ever off the shelves?

The propaganda might be annoying, but Holstein's are the Sell Outs of cows - Quantity over Quality. You need a proper channel island herd mate :p
