Controversial anti-Islam adverts to run on New York buses

This will end well :D.

I don't agree with it at all I think it's rather disgusting.

hey ho if it helps catch one person crack on. That's how it's "worked" for other crimes.

Edit: other than the first one " yesterday's moderate is today's headlines" I don't think there's muxh of an issue with the other two.

I see. I thought there might be more to it than mouth effluent.

e: where's your anime sig gone! I am Captain of the Anime Club and you put it right back now, sir!

Islamic extremists are allowed to preach death and hate towards the west while living in the west but as soon as the roles are reversed suddenly it becomes wrong....

I wouldn't say the roles are reversed. It's simply some people saying they think islam is wrong and dangerous. They're not asking anyone to harm a Muslim. Thankfully!

Freedom of speech?

This. Why is it wrong to hate a faction involved with beheading, simply because of others having a different belief system / denomination (or no belief system), especially when the acts are courtesy of our very own kind? Members of this belief system should be doing more to stamp out this type of behaviour imo, otherwise they'll carry on having a bad name for themselves. Wake up and smell the 21st century.

This is pretty damn wrong and should not be allowed, if the reverse was done it would not be allowed.

what is the reverse and how do you know it wouldn't be allowed?

what are your thoughts on this?

Controversial, superficial and I'm not sure I fully agree with the message - however I don't have an issue with them being able to put across their views. I don't see an issue with opposing an ideology and don't see it as too far removed from campaigns for and against political ideologies, human rights etc..etc..

Actually they are not allowed to preach hate, at least not here, they get arrested for it.

As far as the advert is concerned, I am surprised that a bus company would allow such advertisements and open themselves up to both criticism and accusations of bigotry. However this is America and their Freedom of Speech laws may well allow such nonsense.

This is also not the first time that Pamela Geller has paid for such ads on public transport either and he views are not shared by the larger Jewish Community in the US. The Jewish Council for Public Affairs and The Jewish Community Relations Council are pretty scathing about her and her group. San Francisco donated the money from running the Ads to the Human Rights Commission in the city, which is kind of ironic.

Essentially, she and her group are bigots in and of themselves and a few posters are not really going to change that or engender her to the wider community, she is simply wasting her money. That she thinks the EDL is a reasonable and rational group pretty much says it all really.

Represents some views held by Muslims, and not necessarily what Islam says.

Let's forget about politics, nationalism, history and all these little things that often have a big part to play in things like this and instead make it black and white.

That last poster is very deceptive.

The thing is though if you're like choudrey you stay just on the right side of the law however it's clearly hate speech yet we do nothing other than pay for his housing :(. We've then got the sharia gangs who got a slap on the wrist, black flags flying which clearly have an inflamatory message, someone handing out leaflets promoting the caliphate.

While it is "illegal" it's so rarely enforced we may as well not bother.

Then again this is only based on what I've read in papers so it's not like Id read any instances of it being enforced correctly.

Isn't she a supporter of the EDL? So clearly she's not doing this without bias and there is an underlying message.

She was also denied entry to the UK last year.

Indeed...which is all we really need to know.

Let her waste $100k a time on daft adverts no-one really pays attention to, if all the Municipal Transport Companies are like San Fran then that money going to a good cause.
