That "next-gen" feel

When a game doesn't have a million loading screens.
(see transition from dead rising 2 to dead rising 3)

Player count etc in that game is unrivalled

I'd agree that the visuals haven't made the largest leap. Not saying they arent great they are. MGS5 looks brilliant!! But I think the real differences this time around are with regards to what we're seeing happening, distances we can see, Higher res textures and all with a lack of loading.

But I say that so far!

The likes of what Naughty Dog seems to be showing off with Uncharted 4 will change that if they manage to come through. And come on, its naughty dog. We can hardly doubt them.

Maybe google diminishing returns graphics - see why graphical increments always seem to get less and less noticeable.

But, in the background next gen (current gen now) have much more to offer then just a perceivable graphical jump.

Draw distance, foliage count, on screen content, loads happening.. Watch dogs whilst not the best example I'd guess but compare watch dogs to GTA IV and you'll see the city is just more alive.

I think what doesn't help is that we've had some great cross-generation games but all the true next-gen games have been delayed. AC:Unity does look like a generational leap visually and the latest FFXV video looks amazing.

Still it does seem that each new generation seems to bring less and less in the way of new ideas and experiences. Or maybe I'm just showing my age.

Crysis 3 was the first one that struck me... Thats all. Because its the only one I've played. :p
