AMD teasing new product, is it Radeon or FirePro?

Price drop on the 290s would suffice to be honest.

A decent price cut and power / heat might not be an issue for some people..

Yeh to be fair I got my PCS for only £250 and it does run pretty cool at 65c, will only get cooler during winter.

Bring the aftermarket 290's down to £210 or so and that would be enough to challenge the 970's. The benchmarks don't really show much difference between the 970's and a 290x, which my 290 would be similar to overclocked.

I think Nvidia has done AMD up like a kipper they have destroyed their current lineup and with the Titan X due which probably put the nail in the coffin of the 295x2 it will force AMD to rush launch on 20nm first giving Nvidia time to blow that out of the water as well

To be honest, I'm a bit worried. I hope they bring something that can compete with nvidia. Competition is ALWAYS good for the consumer.

would it :eek: i dont think dropping the 290 in price will make sod all difference..........Nvidia have taken the market by storm, AMD are dead and buried right now, they have to wait till all this hype dies down and then bounce back...........THEY WILL !!!

the only thing that'll work with current stock is to start making the 295X2 again, but at a much lower price..........600 quid top.

For the umpteenth time, AMD have a 550mm2 monster waiting in the wings. They can release it whenever they want. They don't feel threatened by these plebeian Maxwell cards (why would they?) so they are gonna pit it against fat Maxwell when NV get around to launching that. A few % in benchmarks does not get met by a new chip, it gets met by price drops, bundles etc. bizniz init

8gb on any 290 or 290X card and NVidia are dead and buried @4K.

People need to step back and see the whole picture the 980 and 970 have some serious weaknesses too.

It would depend on if AMD can gut themselves and drop the price of 290 down to say...£199.99. There are plenty of people have an absolute budget of £200 max, and cannot stretch up to £260-£280 for a similar performance but more power-efficient 970.

But to be honest, I don't know if they would make any money if really pricing the 290 that low, considering it cost much more for them to make the 290 Hawaii GPU than Nvidia to make Maxwell 970 GPU.

AMD might want to clear the inventory of current cards before unveiling there next lot. I wouldn't worry AMD will bring something competitive out, the real problem isn't that AMD won't be able to compete (They will) but how long it takes before get to launch..

Leave it to long and Nvidia will have already attracted a lot of customers to the 9XX cards. That's a lot of people that won't want to pony up for AMD cards after already going to Nvidia.

Plus when AMD do drop their new cards Nvidia will be ready with the higher end stuff, 'Ti' plus 'Titan'. AMD may compete on performance, but how many people will have already given there money to Nvidia. AMD have great products and innovation / vision but seem to stumble with the execution and timing of releases..

Hopefully AMD act soon.

Can already get a 290 for about £210 (if buying from ocuk at their current prices), just need to sell the games on and if AMD reduce the price even further then you will be getting an even better deal. So if AMD can decrease the price of the 290's to about £230 and you sell on the games, which could go for £40/50 then the 290's will only be worth £180-190, absolute bargain imo.

970 would have been great for the heatwave that lasted for a few weeks here but now it is starting to get into the cold period again, which will last till about April so the 290 shall be nice for some central heating, just imagine all that money that we will save from not having to use the central heating! :p :D

On a more serious note, my msi 290 did get damn hot during the heatwave but now in this cooler weather, temps are fine (idle about 40 and load about 70-75), only game that makes the GPU hit 80 degrees are crysis 3 and metro games. Fans are very quiet too.

no, the Titan X will be too much money, unless Nvida sell it for 700 quid and if so, this means that the R390x2 next year will have to be 650 quid...............GOOD !

This price reduction looks permanent, because if Nvidia gets greedy and raises its prices, then the 290X suddenly looks good again.............AMD has to drop its prices thursday and to stand a chance this price has to be less than a 790

If they dropped prices now on the 290s they would lose money would they not? Bringing out an 8GB version may well have a small percentage of people interested but again they would have to bring them out at a decent price point again.

Again if they have a "monster" in the wings, it isn't going to be cheap. The fact that the leaked cooler seems to include water cooling makes this obvious. Again not a big market.

I'm not a fanboy of either side but I am thoroughly impressed by Nvidias offering this time around, both price and performance wise.

I went for the 970 because of the lower heat / overclock potential and nvidia specific features. I'm not gaming at 4k yet but I expect to next year, just in time for the new maxwell cards and perhaps amds new offerings.

Very bad business because they are letting Nvidia rack up the sales while their lineup gather dust, releasing a super card which would need a water cooler the size of a bus won't help and the fact theres been no leaks (excuse the pun) to hint at new architecture the future isn't orange it's bleak (that pun was intended =p)

Gibbo will be selling Maxwell Titans @829.99 as this is the price point that NVidia tend to use for that card and like the original Titans they will fly off the shelves as there will be no other GM200 cards around when they launch.
