The GTX 970 - Why would you NOT buy this card?

If i was in the market for a new card the 970 would be my choice. In fact i actually considered selling the cards in sig and getting two.

As a tri-x 290 owner, I couldn't imagine getting a 290 over a 970. Going for the best card for the budget I've set myself is what I do each and every time.

Cannot understand the whole Nvidia/AMD fanboy stuff.

Philosophical question?

Because is not an upgrade to someone with 290/290X/295x2/780/780Ti/Titan/CF 7950/ CF 270X/CF 7970/7990/CF 280X.

And even if I had my old GTX560 still or a single 7950, with the next gen 5-6 months away, is waste of money imho.
(I wouldn't even consider it with my old 780 either)

People are odd lol

The pricing in mm for 780 and 290 is cheeky IMO...

People asking 200 plus for 290 and 780 when for 60 quid more you can get a 970

This is another reason i decided to keep my 780's. Paid £290.00 for the first one last december, £255.00 for the second last month. Id end up loosing to much now due to 970 prices. Top card is a hot runner when gaming, but i can live with that.

1. Still too expensive for some.

2. People already have equivalent performing cards.

3. Some people prefer AMD.

1. I did say if your budget was £250 to £280.

2. Sorry, should have said "if you were looking for an upgrade."

3. ......................... don't have an answer. Sorry. Ha! :)

Well i'm not sure why you would buy a 290 for the same money that is for sure.

Maybe the buyer plays a lot bf4 and likes mantle and upcoming amd features in games.
They is loads options why someone would pick a card over another card and it isn't only price or performance.

I have to admit I'd forgotten about Mantle. But that may be a point. I'd forgotten because it's all gone very quiet recently. Or have I genuinely missed something?

I had a 780 Amp! edition, basically as fast as the 970s, but I made the jump immediately. My 780 is on ebay already at 200£ with still four days left...

Replacing vga every year is actually cost effective when you consider the resale value.
This was just to say that even in my case I just Had to buy it.

I think the point the OP is making is that for someone looking for a new card with a budget around £250 it's very hard to beat.

The possibility of a sub-£200 GTX 960 that can overclock like a dream springs to mind. Right now though the 970 is the best choice and I don't see how AMD can top that.
