Second Tory MP defects to UKIP

This isn't really helping ukip's "we're reanimating Margaret Thatcher" image, tbh. If they snagged a non-tory MP it might be interesting. At the Euro elections I DID meet some ukip activists. One old lady who seemed to think that Nick Clegg was unsuitable as deputy PM because his wife was a "Bloody Spaniard". Also, activists were telling me about "all those Romanians who will come here" Now, I don't mind a concern over criminals, but ordinary Romanians? Nah. They were also saying that gays shouldn't get married. I did have a moment of weakness when I was actually going to vote for them earlier this year, as evidenced in a poll on here.

I'm sorry but despite what they say there ARE racist and homophobic people in ukip. I've met them first hand.

Not too dissimilar than the Conservatives then eh.

Or the Police force. :p (Though cant vote for them.lol)

Well I guess the foot soldiers would also be like this. I'm just pointing out that the party line doesn't match the ground, but then again, it wouldn't be the first time in a party that's happened.

Why all the Tory hate, they were voted in and they haven't really done in the last 5 years to warrant any particular criticism as far as I can see, Cameron has tried to project a middle-right persona, at least.

I don't really see ukip winning.
I'll be very surprised if they don't win in Clacton. I've lost count of the number of windows I've seen UKIP posters in. This area has always been very staunchly Conservative and Carswell will get the majority of their votes.

If they win, I'll be incredibly disappointed but I can't see any other party coming close.

The party line is meaningless "something for everyone" promises designed to grab votes. They know that no-one important takes then seriously, so they don't have to work out what all those conflicting "policies" will actually mean. Which is just as well, as none of it has been worked out past the slogan stage.

Their big actual hope is not victory, which is obvious nonsense, but to hold the balance of power with a Tory Minority party.

Credit to Reckless for being one of the few MP's who was prepared to vote for what he believed in rather than what the party whips told him to do.

I don't know if he'll win the seat back as a UKIP candidate, but it'll be an interesting fight - I wonder who the Tories will put up against him, as if they pick some anodyne party drone I reckon Reckless could win it.
