Tax disc who is binning them?

I'm planning on taking mine out. It's going to feel wrong not having anything down there though

This isn't GD but :D

So how will this electronic system work, will coppers be able to detect tax through their ANPR cameras or whatever they're called?

Either way the gov is going to be losing a lot of money, hmm..

95% (probly more) of Petrol Stations have ANPR on them now for catching Non-Payers, I've seen this also used for catching People with no Insurance, so it's just another thing the Software will check 'Automagically'

Plus Roadworks on the Motorway have ANPR along with the SPECs cameras, then the Mobile Vans (even if you're sticking to the speed limit it'll still record your progress)... Most big city's have ANPR cameras all over the place! And I think they'll probly stick loads more up to cover the areas without them!

It won't be perfect!, but then the Bobby on the street or the Traffic Warden wandering up and down a row of cars never caught 100% either!!

I don't see how this is possible. How would a Petrol Station have access to MIB data?

I don't get why everyone is having all this trouble, you've been able to tax it to start from tomorrow for weeks, did the entire country login at 11pm last night or something?

Reading around a bit I think many wrongly thought they could do it monthly from the 1st October. To be fair I only found out it doesn't kick in till the 1st November a few days back.

A lot was made about the convenience of the monthly payment, yet when it got delayed they where quite quiet about it.

Entirely laziness on my part.

A good fun read is the BBC comments section on the article.

Oh my lord it seems some are predicting a nationwide melt down with the loss of the disc. We will have rusty cars dumped outside our houses, number plates stolen, fines caused by cloning the list goes on.

Amazes me that a tiny round piece of paper you have to be about 6 inches away from to read played such an important point of crime prevention.

the cops will check the same way they've been doing for years. Do you think they still actually read the the tax disc?

And the govt will make money out of this. Every time a car changes hands, they get a extra days tax as the new owner has to tax the car again and the previous loses the days in the current month. So on average, there's an extra 15 days of days they'll get for each 2nd hand car sale.

Pardon me for being naive but if this is all done (checking) by the reg, could I not steal the plates of someone else's car and put them on my untaxed car? Obviously this won't help if the police check and it says it's a Silver Civic and plates are on a Transit. Enough to fool an automated system though?

Getting ideas?

They've been able to check if a car is taxed without looking at the tax disc for ages; either a vehicle check over radio or ANPR as you've said. Getting rid of the disc doesn't really change how that's done.

There are collectors for used tax disks, apparently some of the emergency print run with no perforations printed last month could be worth up to £1000.

Might keep my 2011 one

Just be careful where you park if you keep an old disc in. Scrotes might think it's dumped and steal/wreck it maybe?.
