Do you run with vsync or frame cap though? As this will lower the temperature. I run with 300fps on csgo and never cap my frame rate in any game. This makes my cards work even more and give off more heat. If I was to cap my frame rate to say 120fps my temps would be even lower.

I'm using same settings before and after the update. Always have it capped to 200fps (using fps_max 200)

Guys,

I have an important update for you regarding random installation hangs, BSODs and CCC crashes some of you have experienced after installing this version of our driver. We are aware of these issues and will be posting an updated driver as soon as it becomes available. Please read this article for more information: “Intermittent Installation Issues With the AMD Catalyst™ 14.9 Driver”.

Yay, can't wait!! Can you tell me if the update will sort out the issue in Windows 10 as well? As the shipped driver seems to have the black screen issue too.

14.9 drivers, 290, mantle and my new 3930k working wonders in bf4. Temps must be done be down as the fans are much quieter.

I've uncapped the frame rate and I seem to be getting less CPU spiking. Is there an update to mantle in this release matt? Or do you know if dice have done any work on bf4?

If not do you know if they plan to? I can't imagine they'll be doing too much patching after final stand is out but they need to sort it out for the 285s right??

ok guys i have a problem lol
not sure if this has been said before but, when the monitor goes to sleep mode the fans on the 290 do not stop spinning they keep going forever, with the old driver they used to stop spinning, rather annoying as i leave my pc on night time and i have a custom fan profile set in afterburner, burrrrrrrrrrrrr :p

matt, and what about my problem? you havnt said anything...i hope it will be fixed as i said its really annoying....

Sorry OvEr_KiLL, missed your post. Been really busy recently.

Are you using the MSI Gaming APP, because I've never heard of this feature for AMD single card users.

Great to hear Dave, appreciate the feedback.

I'm not sure what changes Dice are making to Mantle in BF4, i will try to find out and get back to you with an update.

no im not matt lol, before this update the fans used to stop spinning when the screen went in sleep mode. and now they are spinning 24/7 i havnt changed anything in msi afterburner either

I wonder if that is a feature specific to the MSI card you have, as I've never heard of that feature for single card AMD users. (aside from the Vapour X card i believe)

is it something to do with link state power management in power options advanced?
its currently set to off, but i havnt changed it

I don't think so, that's just the pci-e lane downclocking itself to save some power. Honestly I'm not too sure on this one. It's normal in crossfire for the second card to turn off (including fans) completely while the pc is in 2d mode, but I've never heard of such a feature of the MSI 290 OC card.

edit. this has happend before when i had some weird spyware, but i removed it with combofix, i ran combofix the other day to check and it didnt do anything, so i will run combofix again later and see if it fixes it

Of course. So just to be clear, the issue is when you put your pc into sleep mode the gpu fans keep spinning?

no lol, when the screen goes in sleep mode, the screen power light turns from green to orange and screen goes off the fans on the gpu should stop spinning,

only screen in sleep mode not the pc.

edit. will try combofix later, il let you know if it fixes it

Got it. Ok i will report that issue. As far as I'm aware though, it's normal for the gpu fans to remain spinning in this state when using a single card.

Can you attach to your next post a DXDIAG report please. Use Sendspace to upload it. Thanks.

I could be wrong, will let you know once I've reported it and got some feedback. Will check back later for your DXDIAG. :)
