I'm just hoping the external speaker is as good as the Note 3, which is perhaps the best on a phone right now.

You do realise the Note 4 speaker is on the back of the phone and it's mono, whereas the M8 has two speakers (thus stereo sound) and they're on the front?

In what world would the Note 4 have a better speaker?

Going to test the speaker tomorrow. why couldnt they just keep it at the bottom, maybe add one at the top too.

Why are people so high on this? Why would this automatically mean they sound better? The Moto G 2013 is rear facing and much better speaker than the front facing pair on the Moto G 2014. Generally when I'm listening to podcasts, the phone is on a table somewhere, not pointed at me anyway.

The only other speaker I've heard that is up there with the Moto G 2013 and Note 3 is the Lumia 930... once again, mono, rear facing.

Having said that, the M8 speakers were good, but not as loud as the Note 3, Moto G or Lumia 930.

Obviously not heard HTC M8 its in a different league speaker wise,

Owned it, tested it, preferred the Note 3. Maybe you're one of these that listens to music on the bus, as Maccawacca suggests?

The only times I listen to the speaker on my Note 2 are when I'm using the Satnav or playing a home video I've just recorded. I couldn't care less personally. Quality of the headphone electronics is far more important.
