Plex have recently release Plex for the Xbox One and 360.

Currently you need a Plex Pass subscription (https://plex.tv/subscription/about - $5 to try for a month) to download the latest version of Plex Media Server that supports it but it will become available to the masses in due course.

Likely a cheap route to people looking to get their media effortlessly into their front room if they already have the hardware.

Sorry if this is a silly question but all my films are running off a Synology NAS (which doesn't support Plex Server) - so do I have to have Plex Server installed on my PC?

Mine has been building a library for 24hrs now. (Around 8th of data)

Yes, you will need Plex Server installed on a server/pc.

Obviously this PC will need to be on whenever you want to watch something from Plex rather than directly stream in from your NAS.

Thanks for the info.

I'll stick to using my Intel NUC, though the Plex on XBone does look good.

Does it work with MKVs natively or will it do transcode? As I understand the next X1 update will do native MKV over SMB anyway?

They transcode at the moment (as with everything else) but until the update we won't know. Plex forums might have the answer though.
