Throw away your expensive GPU's...

Wasn't the new consoles supposed to make it easier to port to the PC? I mean, if that's the case why not allow us to make use of our 4k, surround, 144hz etc?

Looking at the last two big releases (Alien/Mordor) and how relatively undemanding they are, I'd say a trend is starting to develop.

Sod that 1280*720/30fps nonsense though. That's just being lazy.

Knowing the Japanese artistic temperament I can almost guarantee it is woven into the design/gameplay somehow, perhaps some sort of "interactive movie" motif. They did say there would be stuff popping up in the black bars, didn't specify text or images but like I said...

Evil Within - They said there will be a console command to remove the limitations
Basically you are telling half a story

Final Fantasy - Don't care

I would imagine with both games you would be able to work around these issues, issues being a operative word here as they have probably been put in place as cheap lazy fixes for something they encountered when trying to run at the settings.

Id take it a ini file will be around somewhere for FF to fill in a manual res isn't to hard for any game. Edit : And if they have entirely locked the res and removed any viable way to change it then i have lost all faith in what square has become and will stray away from there games in the future

and frame rate as mentioned above a console command to remove it, but again i would imagine there will be a ini file where you can make it a more permanent solution.

not like you should have to im tired of devs getting lazy. I play on my ps4 more now because i am tired of buying new games that the devs didn't give two flying ***** and finding them to be badly optimised.

makes it hard to justify a £3000+ system when the console versions of these games *where applicable feel more optimised and polished than the **** ports pc is being handed it's beyond a joke.

It's almost like they are doing it just for money

I wish they would take inspiration from some indie companys who just want to make a great game and not a quick penny

Rant over writing in a calming pink wuzahhh

I played the Dark Souls 1 port when it was locked at 30fps. I didn't really notice it after an hour. The problem I usually have with framerates is when they're fluctuating during play. Going from 70fps to 40 during hectic scenes is really distracting, but a constant 30 isn't so bad.

So I guess that translation to "taking away the superior experience and bragging rights of PC gamers to keep the console peasants happy while they get away with lazy porting- win win for them" :p

Awesome stuff. Just as well its a weird fantastical world of ladyboys with spears and swords.

Also, that Unity piece. "It's a bit like the Hobbit movie".

Who employs these people?

Some good comments in here and some very good points. FF13 was a complete and utter lazy port. Looks good for sure but there is no getting away from the fact that jaggies are forever present, textures are flat and there is no ini to change resolution manually. I was going to jump on The Evil Within, regardless but think I will save my cash now for devs who can at least be bothered to take PC gamers into account.

You can manually disable to the 30fps lock on Evil Within and expect the same with FFXIII (which is one of the worst FF games btw). So it's a bit of a non-issue.
