Got your own business?

I run a few websites doing affiliate marketing with SEO(Search Engine Optimisation), and make a fair amount from that. At the start it was hard work and very low profit, but now I can easily make decent money with just a couple of hours work per day. I started about 10 months ago.

I don't do any paid advertising as, from what I have learnt from speaking to others, the profit is very low. Someone I spoke to in the past who was spending around $1000 per day on Facebook ads, to make about $50 profit daily, then there's the risk that you can get banned for some unknown reason, or something as simple as a few people report your adverts because they don't like adverts.

I plan to try out some social media stuff eventually, but SEO is easy enough at the moment. Having a huge Facebook page can be very profitable, so I will look into things like that in the future. To have a website that does 'viral' videos or pictures on Facebook, you'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

For anyone just starting in internet marketing, I would recommend trying out Fiverr. You sell services for $5 each and can make money fairly easily. I'm a level 2 seller on there and make anything from $20 to $50 per month selling things that I've fully automated.

You're not wrong there. Likes are one of the easiest things to obtain, as it's least effort for a user. I have tested a number of different promoted posts etc. and spent 19CHF on promoting a post for our new site, with URL and Image (increases visibility apparently) and monitored the traffic.
Although I had 1190 likes on the post, the total number of site visits was only 237.

Promoting posts can be good though, if you have a product especially. You can link it to a deal on your website shop etc. and this can drive customers to the site, which is where you want them as more chance to sell more.

We're in a bit of a weird place for making the most of this, I am merely trying to build up interest. We target educational institutes, so facebook as a direct marketing for sales wouldn't really do that, but if it helps with branding (when I do business development they might have seen our stuff online, or check us online post meeting and a strong following reinforces we aren't a made up entity etc.) then that will be worth it.

What countries were you targeting in your Facebook ads?

I have actually had a little success with posting a Facebook Offer but it's just a few token sales and not really a long term strategy. I have just started testing remarketing on Facebook too and surprisingly have had an early conversion but it's to early to judge it's effectiveness.

I don't understand Google shopping if it doesn't let you use keywords, am I missing something? Any help would be great. I've just used the code to get £75 Adwords credit free after I use £25 of my own

Maybe we can exchange specialities?

I need a website moving from a basic 123reg Web builder to something more modern and you might need me to massage your girlfriends / wives.

Do you have access to the source files for the site? Like the index.html css and such? If so it's pretty simple to do. Trust me if you like and I'm happy to help. I'm not the best in the world but I can get by.

That's never as fun. :p

I'm trying to price out the time/ cost for dev for a backend / admin portal for course creation. We have our delivery method/ front end app. I now need to get a good understanding on what it would take to create what's in my head.

It just uses Google algorithm and provides results primarily based on product title and description. Make sure your main keywords are in your product title when you upload your product file.

I set up as a sole trader in April of this year, just as a side-line at the minute with the intention of building up the business to the point where I can leave my full time employment and work for myself totally.

Its hard bloody work, and I definitely have less money now than I did before I started up but that's more to do with the way I set the business up rather than the business itself.

My hand was sort of forced and I had to make the decision whether to start up or not as small guaranteed contract had come up, so I went for it and then realised just how much it was going to cost me in tools, test equipment etc. etc.

But now I feel like I am finally getting somewhere, although there has been a few hiccups along the way (Registering for VAT etc.) but am pretty certain that it'll be worth it in the long run.

a sub forum is an excellent idea, I find quite a lot of information found online to be out of date, it'd be nice to go somewhere that is more current.

I bet you have more respect for your current boss too.

You can put up different designs and get people to validate your logo, your site, etc. You set the tests and questions (such as which logo do you prefer, what would you change on the site, would you buy from this site etc etc.) and you can run the tests. It is free if you run through a few tests of other peoples first, which is nice and it's quick too.

Thanks!

This looks great.

I started a business selling parts for MG Rover vehicles about a year and a half ago - it's gone from standard servicing items to me getting parts made up that have been out of production for some time, and ultimately saving many cars from being scrapped.

I now import direct from MG in China, which is a big step in the right direction. I have no idea what I'll do when they're all gone, but for now it's giving me a very comfortable income.

I own my own business, its split into two, one internet sales one installation. The internet sales took off two years ago and has grown from doing about 50k a year to close on to a million it will be this year. I found using a good search engine optimisation company made me jump over a year from doing relatively not much to getting my keywords on the front page of google for a lot of things so that would be my tip, get a company that knows how to do it and save yourself on the google adwords.

I'm about to do an SEO course but just wondering where you found the company you use? Lots of charlatans about!

Was that a general code or unique? I'm just about to sort out some adverts for my paranormal book as it is Hallowe'en.

Upon reading that some curry went back on my plate. :(

I think a sub forum would be good as long as the e-penis's don't come out. So as long as it doesn't turn into motors it should be fine.

Just taken a short term job so can throw some money at it, maybe the seo if that works but as my keywords will be similar to big online retailers I may struggle
