New MacMini & iMacs?

I had ordered a Retina iMac but have canceled the order for now. I wanna wait until reviews come about the GPU powering it.

I don't wanna spend £2400 on a Desktop and find out the GPU can't handle the Screen Resolution :/

I will give this year a miss, too early to replace my i7/32G/27" iMac just yet !

Nice, currently have a rMBP and 2x 1080p monitors that I hate. Need something better xD.

True it is a Laptop GPU, I was half expect 980M its pretty close to the 970GTX in terms of performance, instead of the 290M and 295M. Moreover since AMD is extremely power hungry and hot this gen (not 100% sure if this is the same for laptops).

If it was a 980M I would have it still ordered because I know it is a beast of a GPU.

But AMD I am not so sure and Apple have history with First Gen Retina displays lagging before.. MBR & iPad for example.

I was disappointed that there was no MacBook Air Retina, as I'm sure were many others. Surely, given other similar products, Apple can bring out more product line updates more quickly? It feels like spacing out the updates is a purely commercial decision - I can understand that if true but the MacBook Air seems to have been ignored for too long now.

I only bought a Retina MBP for the display, I imagine there are other people in that boat as well. Making the Air too good would cannibalise sales of the higher end machine - it's essentially their MacBook now.

But I agree, a 12" Retina Air would be the perfect machine.

I would wait for the reviews to come in. dropping that much money on a machine for it to lag would really really **** me off if it was me. I guess it depends what you want to do with it of course. playing games etc im sure it will suck the juice. browsing twitter however, i'm sure it will be ok

Does anyone know if you could install OS X onto an external drive ? Apple are charging a fair bit for an ssd , I'd like to get a Mac mini but by the time you upgrade to an ssd and 8gb ram it's pretty expensive.

I can answer that for you now - no it won't, 2d yeah fine (mearly ok), 3d at native, no way in hell, the GPU is around 30% slower than an r290x, if you don't mind your 3d scaled 4x lower than native res, then its fine.

The mid tier Mac minis are too expensive for what they are with a mechanical 5400rpm drive, such a shame as I was really looking forward to a new Mac Pro esque machine with an SSD. I guess they have to make the differentiation somehow, but that's just too extreme a difference for too high a cost.

Plus, what's the betting the SSD spec'd minis come with a custom PCI-e card that can't be replaced.

As I said in the other thread, I'm sticking with my 2011 for the foreseeable. Might stick 16GB in it to eek it out a bit longer, but the Sammy 840 has breathed life into it already.

Apple are losing it aren't they. REAL marketing over substance more than ever. Their release cycles are PR master strokes but seemingly they are releasing very off the mark going rate kit with flashy aesthetics and nice screens. Imagine the new iMac with GTX980 horsepower as an example.

Yeah really surprised it doesn't have this, its uses so little power compared to AMD, and has a lot less heat.

almost pushed the button on the new iMac but again going to wait for reports on the GPU first. Have a 13" MBPr at the moment, but i only leave it at work, so thinking ill sell that, and get a desktop :D

but its a lot of cash to spend on something that may not handle the graphics well

I'll be saving up for a Mac Mini - brilliant little machines - Apples dual-cores handle anything I have ever thrown at them.

Not a chance it's going to handle anything recent at native res.
