People will travel irrespective ? No they will not.. Not if the borders are closed on the affected countries. OK so maybe a few will illegally jump the restricted border, but it'll be a whole lot less containment than the amount that are currently freely available to travel. Would Thomas Eric Duncan been in the USA if travel was restricted ? My guess is no ! They blocked 'ALL' travel after 9/11. This is far more serious, and blocking travel from West Africa in terms of transportation would have FAR LESS impact.

So basically what you're saying is, let them fly and infect a few people. Try telling that to the poor families of those infected. You can start off with Nina Pham, if you like. Someone who was trying to help, now fighting for her life.

It's like saying, ooh there's an asteroid heading for earth. Yes it may or may not hit, but we do not want to hurt its feelings by blowing it up. Just replace the Asteroid with Liberia and there's your solution.

If we acted on this kind of request each time it was proferred during some "crisis" or other then the Country would be at a perpetual standstill.

Appropriate responses to the level of risk and proportionate safeguards. Cutting of all travel from Africa at this stage might be jumping the gun somewhat.
 
Don't know about you ? But I've been here on this planet for 42yrs, and never has a viral threat seemed so potentially catastrophic as Ebola getting out to the general population.

Given there's no vaccine or cure, we do not control it, it controls us. It spreads easily, and more easily than we're all led to believe. Ebola will be the decider on where it wants to go with this one. This isn't a war where one side can just surrender once the death toll hits high enough. Once the infections become widespread its game over for the world as we know it.

Why take any chances ? Contain the countries affected to slow down the spread & in the meantime work on a vaccine.

If one is found, then great. Science 1 Ebola 0 ! if not, then at least we did everything possible within our arsenal of defenses.
 
My mum and some of her team were supposed to be doing an assist course with the MOD in December (I think the medical and dental centre is at Thiepval barracks in Lisburn). She told me this morning that that has now been cancelled because most of the ones they would be helping are the medics flown out to Africa. She says she's unlikely to agree to any further training with them when them come back unless they're quarantined for a while and show no signs of illness.
 
I'm sill firmly in the everyone stop over reacting camp, just keep your hands clean cover any cuts, don't touch your face with your dirty hands and don't touch Sick or dead people... So basically what everyone should do day to day.

I will eat my hat if anyone who was on that flight with the nurse in the USA gets sick.

Which spreads via sexual intercourse, whereas Ebola spreads by shaking someone's hand, or sneezing next to someone.

Perhaps that 75mil statistic, should help you come to the real realization of how this could turn out

I am not shortsighted. I just don't get hysterical about things about things I fully understand unlike you because you've made some serious errors in your posts over the last page that betray a complete lack of knowledge.

I doubt you had a smallpox vaccination but I am presuming Tefal means TB which if course is not a virus. You would have been a year too late for smallpox.
