How do you deal with your GF's poor driving..

Mine is pretty good. Towing a trailer recently she claimed that "it doesn't effect the braking distance", but all was fine. I still prefer to drive though.

Buy an mx5 already!

I don't have to worry about this issue currently but the last girl I was seeing didn't even have a license so there really was no issue for me about her driving. :D

My girlfriend is a great driver.

But as mentioned above, she does do odd things. Like change down to 1st from 2nd when at a roundabout, when a little forward planning and better reading of the road would have meant she could have stayed in 2nd throughout and it wouldn't have been a problem.

My wife is IAM and Blue Light trained!

I'm the one who (according to her) can't drive!! :D

Does she just brake approaching junctions with the clutch pedal upon the floor or does she use the gearbox to slow down as well?

Mine had secondhand Blue Light training from he copper ex and repeats "Brakes are for stopping, gears are for goes.." whenever questioned about coasting towards junctions.

I'm sure keeping your left hand on the gear lever for long periods isn't something the Feds teach either...

Mine is a pretty good driver, but I do wonder how long it will be before one of her unkind gear changes breaks something. :p

Though she does do some of the things mentioned above at times. And speeds.

My gf drives a hell of a lot better than me :D

Love the implication that everyone has to deal with terrible driving from their gf. It's most commonly called a STEREOTYPE. Use Google (if you know how that works) to figure out what one of those is.

Sorry you have issues with your gf's driving :p But that's a really awful title.

My gf does pretty much all the things in the OP except she likes to speed too. I hate being in the car with her as she constantly causes unnecessary events or risks due to lack of awareness of what is going on around her.

She reversed into me while letting me pull off my driveway a few months ago (she was blocking me in), and keeps talking about getting an Audi or BMW soon...

shes speeds every where, sits up peoples arse, but wnt pull out in a massive gap it drives me mad! and we argue about it haha!

she says i cant do gear changes.
i laugh

Hill starts easy peasy... and my car's got 'Hill Hold' which just makes it easier!! :D

Yes!, but so do I!! I was always told (and she agrees) that Brakes are cheaper than a gearbox to replace when they wear out! :D

And proper IAM drivers have both hands on the wheel and never rest the left hand on the gearstick for extended periods! She's always telling me off for this!! :D

Brakes are cheaper to replace because they are consumable parts. The gearbox isn't going to break if you use it to decelerate unless you do some really stupid and violent downshifts with reasonable frequency. You shouldn't 'coast' because if someone hits you from behind and your foot gets knocked off of the pedal, you've just been shoved into the path of another car/into the back of a car/into something/someone. If you are in gear and/or slipping the clutch as well as braking, this effect will be far less serious...

I don't understand people who coast. I've done it a few times, partly out of curiosity, and it even *feels* unsafe in comparison. Considerably so.

My driving instructor taught me loads of stupid things. He never brought it up if I coasted, he would tell me not to put it in neutral at traffic lights (eh? I ignored this advice and he didn't really mention it again), never to cut corners even if the road is empty, and so on. The ex advanced/blue light instructor who taught me after I passed told me never to coast, not to worry about cutting corners if there is nobody there (seems logical) etc
