A criminal record for the rest of his life which will ruin his career and stop him getting good jobs and 9 years in prison. Come on. As if thats a fair punishment. Have you people ever been to a house party?

Perfectly fair. At least he'll learn to think before he acts in future. Which I wish more people decided to do before behave like immature Neanderthals.

Oh christ, if it was like this when I was that age we'd all be in jail.

If it wasn't someone getting drawn on it or shaved was that guy who took it a bit too far and jizzed on a sleeping dudes face.

Or put lotion in a johnny and poked it up someones arse with a biro.

PC culture these days... Guys mess around, it's sort of in their coding. You needn't be happy you've been messed with but it hardly demands jail time, it's all in good fun.

but was any of that to a woman and filmed to potentially resurface 10 years later when your kid is at school asking, "why does mummy has a schlong on her chin?" in this video

Surely the effect on the victim is what makes the crime severe?

Just cos you dont mind have a biro up your ass, me either btw I have a felt pen up mine now, doesn't me that someone wouldn't ?

Excellent news, the guy sounds like an idiot, now he gets to spend the rest of his lamenting about how his aspirations have been dashed due to a moment of sheer idiocy.

Not sure what to say tbh...

She chose to become inebriated to that level.
She chose to throw herself into a cesspool of untrustworthy drunkards.
Wasn't what happened inevitable?

I get wasted 2 or 3 times in a year, but I do it in the company of 100% trustworthy people who have proven their trustworthiness and who I know will protect me (as I will them). I'm not defending anything or anyone before someone misinterprets my stance. If anyone did such a disgusting thing at one of our house parties they'd get beaten to a pulp and thrown out within three minutes - if she wanted to let herself go she should be doing it in the company of honest people.

I'm just saying ****s will always be out there, you have to have some major naevity about you to be able to trust that a bunch of random drunkards are going to protect you if/when you pass out.

So you hold the same opinion of when someone gets raped? I mean, they did get drunk so they deserve it, right?

I sort of get what you're saying, but at the same time, I found that sort of behaviour tiresome and immature and frankly I kept well away from that environment - or at least hung out with people that didn't think that humiliation was "fun".

Yes lads will be lads, but there's a limit to what is a harmless bit of a fun, to something which is a bit more serious, like in this case, sexual assault. Now, had she been part of the gang, and mates with everyone then the story could be a little different, but she wasn't and I think behaving such a way to another human being irrespective of whether they are asleep owing to their own fault, or not, is totally unjustifiable.

What you do with mates is one thing, doing things to strangers and not expecting repercussions is frankly immature.

It's not about being PC it's about having a modicum of respect towards others.

Why are various posters going on about a 'drunken prank' as if his being drunk provides some kind of defence or mitigation? You remain completely culpable for acts carried out when you're wazzoed.

Don't fall asleep at a house party

p.s that biro prank is halarious

I can't think of any reason why assault like that could be consider funny.

Pray tell what is so hilarious about "lotion in a johnny and poked it up someones arse with a biro"?

Being trusting of strangers is no way changes the particulars of the matter, while it may not be mitigating risk that alone changes nothing (no more than a person being attacked on the walk home alone is there fault). I can't help but get the hint of victim blaming here.

Yes he was entirely at fault.
Yes it was utterly idiotic.
Yes it was grossly offensive & humiliating to the individual in question.
Yes it is deserving of some form of punishment/penalty.

But I don't think he deserves to be on the sex offenders register, & neither do I think he deserves nine months in prison.

Maybe not and admittedly I think it's taking it a bit far to flop your nob on some random sleeping girls face and take a picture.

But I don't think that's worth 9 months in jail, a bit of community service or a fine perhaps?

Yes lads will be lads, but there's a limit to what is a harmless bit of a fun, to something which is a bit more serious, like in this case, sexual assault.
How is it sexual assault though, it was using a sex organ for comedic purposes but it's not like he was using her to get off.

Highly inappropriate for someone you don't know, I agree, but the punishment was extremely harsh considering. You also have to ask if it would be the same had some girl mashed her hairy growler into a sleeping blokes face.

The penis really is an hilarious body part. Probably the funniest of all (maybe nose?). It seems a shame that such restriction is placed by society on using it for such japes. Relegated to a mere sex and excretion tool :(

It would be just as sad to see the reverse (woman doing it to man). It is sexual assault because a sex organ was used - if they had drawn on her, or shaved an eyebrow it would have been assault. It's the humiliation and sexual connotation of the action which I guess makes it worse.

I sort of understand where you're coming from though and whether or not being on the sexual offenders register is maybe a little OTT... however I can't say I feel sorry for him.
