Hi all,

I found a load of stamped silver cutlery in my loft (must have belonged to the previous residents), i have been looking all morning to see if i can identify any of the symbols but with no luck.

Can anyone helps please?

Doesn't look British

*Edit*

I'm a tool, didn't mean British, I meant hallmarked with a silver standard.

Or genuine?

Drag it all down to a jewelers. They will tell you within 2 minutes what it is and how much it's worth.

Looks more like 1892 to me... (If that site you linked is correct, then 1934 is a "K")

Edit, scratch that, based on the background shape of the "S", it appears to be 1910 from Sheffield:

the main problem seems to be until it was standardised different countries used different letters for different years! but in the same fonts!! and even different assay office in this country did the same

its fun though, my missus bought a lovely ring made from a flattened sterling silver teaspoon and it was great to find it dated from 1956 and who made it

Someone else has posted an almost identical piece here:

"It's silver plated I'm afraid. It was made by a Sheffield firm named Smith Seymour. Their trade mark was a play on their initials, (Ess Ess = SS)."

Yeah thats it, Ah well maybe ill put the lot on gumtree for a tenner as there is a lot of it with a load of smith seymour Ltd stainless steel cutlery, If i had noticed this then the SS would have made more sense :)
