Good podcasts anyone?

2 weeks or weeks ago I was watching something I can't remember on Youtube and in the sidebar was Steve Austin Unleashed, so I clicked it and it's his podcast. It's a Podcast where he interviews other wrestlers, old and some current, about what their life was like in the business, what life has been like after the business. They talk about highs and lows, injuries and drug use and other coping measures like alcohol, failed marriages etc because being on the road 365 days of the year.

If you were into wrestling at some point then it's a really fascinating look into whats going on outside the ring.

Jim Ross also has a podcast doing the same thing. Jericho too but he branches outside of wrestling, and Goldberg has just started a podcast too.

Check them all out on Podcastone.com

No I don't watch Wrestling before anyone ribs me ;p I stopped in 2001.

^ Those.

I'd recommend Austin and Jericho's at least Both of them are great hosts and are great shows if you were/are a wrestling fan. Obviously if your still watching wrestling you're going to get a little more out of them since they do talk about current stuff (being big into metal & rock will help for Jericho as well). I'd also recommend Colt Cabana's podcast in that vein as well but that's definitely one for someone more in touch with than just WWE.

Can't recommend Jim Ross' though, all he does is talk over his guests, ****es and moans about the lighting in Ring of honor and generally acts crankly that the world moved beyond 1982 mid south wrestling (contrast anytime any of the 3 I recommend have had a guest that's also been on Ross' podcast).

Outside of my geekly dark secret I'd also recommend the Daily Tech News Podcast by Tom Merritt. Might not work for everyone but it's the perfect length for my commute.

Crate and Crowbar is cool, a PC gaming podcast done by some of the writers for PC gamer.

Geek Syndicate do some good ones, from general geek stuff to gaming and other stuff.

Freakenomics is good too, very interesting the ways humans and the world interact. Ive learnt a good deal listening to this one.

The Ricky Gervais Show - nothing funnier than Smerch, Gervais and Pilkington
The Joe Rogan Experience - hands down the best podcast still going
Bill Burrs Monday Morning Podcast - hilarious as ever
Crate & Crowbar - funny, well organised and interesting chat from PC Gamer magazine crew
SMODCAST: Smodcast - Kevin Smith excellent all around
The Moth - selected winners from themed nights of incredible true stories

Crate & Crowbar - the lads at PC Gamer magazine used to run a PC Gamer podcast but packed it in and started their own podcast. I've never come across a funnier, well organised and content rich gaming podcast. They're in the gaming industry which means they get an access to development studios and talk about how something looks very promising and why or if something is a waste of money. They're obviously journalists so understand the areas that interest the listener and that keeps a great pace and the group is really funny to top.

I must have listened to The Ricky Gervais XFM Show about 15 times over, easily, because the three of them just instantly put me in a good mood. To date he has:
The Ricky Gervais XFM Show - 5 seasons <-- radio tapes... not available to buy ;)
The Ricky Gervais Show Podcast - 5 seasons (inc. Podfather)
The Ricky Gervais Guide To... 9 episodes

The Joe Rogan Experience is such a well rounded show and he knows exactly what is entertaining and when to switch off. Each show lasts around 3 hours and you'll be surprised how fast those three hours disappear. The shows can range from interviewing a stand up comedian who hosts a porn podcast to a doctor in quantum physics going into depth about theories and methods.

I haven't seen The Moth mentioned on here but it has some of the funniest, inspirational and heartwarming stories I've ever come across. In the same podcast you can move from wanting to run with the bulls in Spain to tearing up about a stewardess' first flight after 9/11.

Most of what I listen to has already been mentioned. However I have started listening to Theres no such thing as a Fish. By the makers of QI.

Mr regulars are Crate & Crowbar, One life left and Regular Features. The first to are gaming related. Regular features is done by current/ex games journalist but rarely features games, it's odd and funny though.

In this respect, I don't think it's poor etiquette to repeat podcast names that others have mentioned.

A lot of us at OcUK generally have similar mindset/tastes so it's a great way to see the popularity of certain podcasts (i.e. The Joe Rogan Experience).

My regular podcasts are the 5 Live Dr Karl phone in ones and the 5 Live science one with Dr Chris Smith.

My favourite each week though has to be the AVForums podcast - absolutely brilliant - comedy gold at best and just downright enjoyable the rest of the time.

They also do an AVForums Games podcast twice a month which is worth it for any gamers out there.

It's interesting how much it's changed over the years - I remember listening to it like 4/5 years ago and it being much more in depth and tech focused whereas now sometimes the tech bit is very short but they do realise that and acknowledge when it's been a slow week tech wise!

Threads like this crop up quite regularly, but it's always useful to check what folk are listening to. In this case I'm pleased to find Crate & Crowbar, as I've missed those guys since the PCGamer UK podcast disappeared. Not sure what's happened to the US one either... their managing editor still appears on the Gamers With Jobs podcast, but the PCGamer feed seems to have dried up.

My list of regulars is fairly long, as our manager turns a blind eye to one earpiece listening in the dead of night. So I tend to listen to a lot of things which I wouldn't if I was listening in my free time. I'll try to sort them into 'core listening' and 'the rest'

Core:
This American Life (which can vary from ok to superb)
BBC FOOC (From Our Own Correspondent, for sideways viewpoints on world events)
NPR (various US-based subjects)
iPM (offshoot from Radio4's PM)
Hardtalk (BBC interviews: sometimes dull, sometimes surprisingly interesting, as with this week's Francis Rossi/Quo interview)
This Week in Tech (tech gossip with lots of ads to skip through)
Windows Weekly (another Leo Laporte show; frequently dull but sometimes useful Microsoft chat)
Inside Science (BBC's weekly science news)
7 Day Saturday (intermittent weekly podcast from Al Murray on Radio5)
More or Less (BBC maths and stats, taking apart stats in mainstream news)
Money Box (BBC money news and management)
Infinite Monkey Cage (BBC/humorous philisophical discussion)
Friday Night Comedy (from the BBC again)
PC Perspective (PC Hardware, with decent 'crack' along the way)
The Tech Report (PC Hardware, a somewhat 'drier' look at hardware).
Maximum PC (PC hardware... can be good but recently they've drifted a bit further into what seems like guest advertising than I care for).
This is Only a Test (Tested.com's general tech podcast).
No Such Thing as a Fish (the QI backroom team)
Videogamer UK (probably the one gaming podcast I'd listen to on my own time)
PC Pro (weekly tech from the magazine team)

The rest:
IGN AU (Australian general banter & gaming)
IGN Beyond (Playstation based)
IGN Gamescoop (Can be useful for general gaming news)
The Disciplined Investor (US shares and investment discussion)
DHUnplugged (more casual investment discussion)
Gamers With Jobs (general gaming, ok until they start on about board ZZzzz..... games)
Chequered Flag (BBC F1 team podcasts)
One Life Left (more gaming chat from the UK, quite quirky and entertaining)
Mature Gamer (General gaming chat from a bunch of friends; definitely time fillers material... usually Sunday morning at about 3am for me)
Giant Bombcast (General gaming and chat... one of the more trustworthy sources of gaming opinion IMO)
Idle Thumbs (more general gaming... recently got a bit too interested in 'Gamergate'... yawn)
My Brother, My Brother (an 'acquired taste', internet advice for the modern age from three brothers; sometimes inspired, often much less so)

There are more, but that list looks long and shameful enough. :-)

Agreed Andrew, Crate & Crowbar really is a fantastic PC gaming podcast.

There aren't many other gaming podcasts as well structured, moan-free, diverse and genuinely funny.

You actually have quite a few gaming podcasts in your list! Which would you recommend as being similar in quality/content as Crate & Crowbar?

Hi guys

I'm starting to prefer listening to podcasts at the moment over music especially when walking the dog/driving etc.

Anyone know of any podcasts that they listen to which get updated weekly (or sooner)? Not bothered about subject, if its a well organised podcast and fairly interesting I'll listen!

I think it's been done before in another section

I listen to

Clyde1 superscoreboard to hear my compatriots moaning about football
and Thought for the day which is really interesting from radio 4 I also listen to the friday night comedy podcast from radio 4 brilliant satirical comedy.

Dabbled with american shows but don't really get their humour at all sadly.

Also tried most english drive time shows moyles etc but found them crass and uneducational and not funny at all.
