they have to go 22 laps on these tires, the most they have gone is 20.
They say it most races, most of their pre race testing is realistically high fuel testing and with a greener track. End of the race they can almost always go further on tires than anyone manages in practice. A lot of it is simply that no one has time to do a 30+ lap stint in practice, not necessarily that they can't either. You can do 20 laps, take measurements from the worn tire, it might not be fully out, you might realise it's 80% done so could do another 5 laps, or it might be 98% gone and it was at it's limit. The length they do in practice isn't that indicative of what the tires can do.
