United States Grand Prix 2014, Austin - Race 17/19

lol, not a chance, Maldonado's Vergne tap(I haven't seen a replay it looked like Vergne moving towards Maldonado to me so he maybe shoved back a bit, which is fine in my books) was nothing compared to vergne's smash up the inside then forcing Grosjean off the track to compound it.

Ah yes, Vergne is the one I was thinking of. He just slammed into the other guy

I'll be gutted if Rosberg wins the very last race. It sucks that Lewis's build up of his lead will become irrelevant and winning in Sao Paolo will not matter, just because of double points and the strong possibility of luck favouring Rosberg in Abu Dhabi. It's almost like the toss of a coin for who wins the WDC regardless of who's been the better driver all season.

I don't know why people saw that as boring, I really enjoyed the race. Some awesome battles and overtakes, a great drive by Lewis again and great result for Ric. Alonso battling was good, what a driver. Interesting race for Vettel, at first I thought his race was ruined, but he was able to turn it on and come good in the end. What will be interesting next year is if he can drive that Ferrari home as well as alonso has consistently out driving his team mate and putting that pig of a car so highly. My feeling is he won't and that will reflect how he compares to the very best.

Button complaining about balance again. Bore off old man, you're not good enough.

Crofty commentary was hilarious.

"they're lining up here, it's looking like a local bbq, it's going to be very tasty indeed! " wut?

"was that a little French kiss between grosjean and Vergne? Whatever it was it was a smacker!"

Grosjean: "WHAT WAS THAT?!"
Crofty: "that was Jean Eric Vergne"

Comically so bad it's great :D

It's double points all the way down. So if Lewis wins again in the next race it's in the bag for him.

Just have to hope Lewis doesn't dnf in Brazil! Even then though if Lewis gets 1st and nico 2nd, if nico wins in Abu Dhabi after he can still take it if Lewis isn't 2nd :( if it's 1 & 2 in Brazil Lewis is ahead 31pts.

Nope. Even if Lewis wins and Rosberg DNFs in Brazil he still only leads by 49 points.

The title will be decided in Abu Dhabi.

He will only have to come second(or something like that) at the last race to win the WDC if he wins the next race.

One thing I will say about F1 at the moment (and as demonstrated by Ham on Ros) is that the over-taking feels about right in terms of the faster car/driver being able to pass the slower car/driver without the racing feeling 'artificial' due to 'push to pass tech' i.e. KERS and DRS.... I think the tyre selections (excluding Russia for obvious reasons) and degradation are about right, but it would be nice if they could reduce the marbling to make alternative lines for over-takes more feasible. I think if refuelling were to be introduced it would add an extra dimension to strategy and track-position to made the GPs even more interesting...

Other than that, if having 1 team overly dominant can be avoided the racing in F1 should get better and better.

I thought only the winner of the last race gets double points from 25 to 50. Are you saying 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 all get doubled?

If Lewis wins Brazil and Nico comes second, Lewis can win the title by being third or better at Abu Darbi.

If Nico wins Brazil and Lewis comes second, Lewis can win title by being second or better at Abu Darbi.

... I think!

That's great then, makes me feel a bit better :)

It wont when Lewis' car breaks and Rosberg wins by default.

I can see it now. Rosberg may well win the championship with 5 wins to Hamilton's 11 (assuming he wins the last race) which would be an utterly laughable result for F1.

Double points in the last race just makes a mockery of the whole season that preceded it.

Assuming a Mercedes 1 2 in both the remaining races, Lewis can come second to Rosberg in both and will still be WDC.

In reality the season will be decided based on issues, bad luck or retirements. With both cars finishing without issues its Lewis's.

Rosberg might win it with 4 wins to Hamilton's 11. If Rosberg comes second to Ham's first in Brazil the gap will be 31 points, if Ham DNF's then 36 points for second place in the final race would be enough to see him win, that would be truly ridiculous.

Now, I don't think he would but if Hamilton had a DNF(mechanical failure, not Hamilton hitting someone or something that is his own fault), Rosberg could have two options, win, take the title but be that guy. The champion who everyone puts an asterisk next to, that everyone for the rest of your life says, wasn't close to the best driver and is laughable situation. Basically you'd be the joke champion. The other option is to drop back get enough points to let everyone know you could have won but you let your team mate have it. Everyone would see it as basically him being a good guy and the guy who could have been champion but did the right thing.

One he might continue to get booed everywhere he goes, the other he could be cheered as a hero. I don't know what I'd do in that situation but with the idea that effectively I'd always be regarded as a joke/sham champion, that would be really pretty awful to live with.

Indeed. Whilst the draw of being a world champion is what drives these guys, i'm not sure I would want to win with 5 wins to my team mates 11 and win solely because my teammates car broke and because of the introduction of the most stupid F1 rule ever.

I don't think for a second Rosberg would drop back though..
