UK an offended nation

My intelligence is feeling offended by some of the morons in this thread.

What next, pedestrians having to pay to cross a road?

I'm not a regular cyclist, but I'm led to believe this is a recommended practice to put drivers off of overtaking when there's a small amount of room on a dangerous stretch of road, and also to make the cyclists more visible? Not completely sure though...

The highway code instructs horse riders and cyclists to ride single file in order to allow safe overtaking.

They don't need to pay tax as they don't produce emissions apart from farts. They should have insurance however.

I have no objections to cyclists, provided they are using the road.
The idiots who always use the pavement are the ones that bug me.
A few weeks ago a young lass was riding down the pavement, texting on her mobile, when bang she rode straight into an elderly man.
When she picked her bike up she gave the old man a mouth full of abuse and then rode off.

By purchasing a licence enabling you to ride a bike or horse on a public road.

Well I never knew that paid for the roads, I thought it was normal taxes and Council tax.

However, as a daily cyclist, I do agree that we should have insurance and some identifiable markings.

How can somebody be offended by a sign warning of danger?

Well cyclists don't pay any road tax. So they should stay of the roads for starters.

Bloody cyclists....

Derp.

Regardless, Cyclists don't pay any sort of tax, insurance etc etc...

They need to stay of the road or accept they are a hazard on the road knowing it might be their last day.

Ok you might be trolling but that kind of attitude is why the roads in the UK aren't safe for cyclists. They have the *right* to use the road, just like pedestrians, and horse riders. Motorised vehicle users are *licensed* to use the road. Cyclists are vulnerable because unlike car drivers they aren't in a metal box protected by crumple zones and airbags.

So lines like "stay off the road or except it may be their last day" really winds me up. Idiotic attitudes have no place on the road.

Nothing wrong with the Jeremy Vine show beats the Jeremy Kyle show any day of the week.

I like Jeremy Vine, you get a more sophisticated class of whinging.

Didn't you know? If all cyclists paid the same as motorists for their license (now £34 + £14 every 10 years) and the appropriate level of VED (up to 100g CO2 per km = £0) then our road network would be significantly better and cyclists would be welcomed with open arms on to the road network.

Its a weird catch 22, some cyclists are small puckered openings most arent, motorists notice the few bad cyclists and some of them become small puckered openings too, so the cyclists notice and the chain continues.

Not gonna lie, ive seen some horrid actions from cyclists, indeed once i nearly ran a pair over and once i was the one nearly run over.

Not gonna go into the tax thing because even if bicycles had tax they have no emissions so like electric cars they wouldnt have to pay anyway, which is right and proper.

But they should obey the highway code and have insurance, like i'd expect someone on a small motorbike to have, likewise though motorists should give them the proper leeway you would give a moped for example.

Tl:dr cyclists and motorists should be treated, and treat each other as equals.

This will no doubt be met with a huge amount of scorn, but I get annoyed (rightly or wrongly so) when I get held up commuting at the weekend by cyclists on their jollies, riding two or three abreast at 10mph.

Why not just stick to cycling off road or on dedicated cycle paths/routes if you are cycling recreationally and thus save holding motorists up?

Tl:dr cyclists and motorists should be treated, and treat each other as equals.

However they're not equals. Roads are much riskier for cyclists than motor vehicles.

As for insurance? Why? Do horse riders and pedestrians need insurance too?

We should be much more like the Netherlands, one of the safest places for cyclists.

/ thread derailed.

I'm a little offended with myself for starting to warm to LordSplodge quite a lot. He's had a couple of great posts over the last week or so :)

I'm offended that I'm not posting my usual dribble.
