The missus has asked what I want for Christmas , so I'm here asking what you all think ?

ID just get the Xbox for media , and to try a dabble in development with the Kinect . Maybe try the gta v befor it drops on PC

Or

Get a 3rd 970 ... Which I'd also need a new board with PLX chip . I love benching so I'd get use out of them even if games diddnt support them from the off

What do you think I'd get the best use out of ... I know it's a very weird question but we can't have it all haha

Also do you think 3 aftermarket cards would be manageable in terms of thermals

Specs are

4770k
Gtx 970 ex oc sli
16Gb 2666
MSI z97s sli plus
Air 540
2560 x 1080p

The fact that you love benching, and only really want the Xbox for media, I'd say it swings quite strongly towards the graphics card.

Don't get a console, over priced trash for the hardware they have inside.

I think they offer quite good value in my opinion. :)

If you are into benching then a 3rd card would suite you but tbh I just do not see the fun in spending hours trying to get a slightly higher number than someone else on a synthetic benchmark but each to their own. :)

Grab a console and play some games...

At your resolution you don't need 2 x 970's let alone 3 :p

If you're gonna get a console get the PS4, used both, trust me it is significantly better than the Xbone. Not only in performance, but aesthetics as well. Plus the upcoming exclusives are worth the console price imho, along with muliplats generally running at higher res or fps. If you don't get PS4, Wii U is second best option. Xbone is just a weird TV console in a bread bin sized box. Microsoft went fubar on this one.

Oh I know it's a stupid amount of power for the res , but those HiGH BENCH SCORES !! :p ...

As above I have the power so I want avoid going for one just due to resgate senarios. Anything Imo that the PS4 outshines on my PC outshine that . I'm a racing sim enthusiast and FPS now and again but would just like a platform that has something other than gaming ... Hense why I'd like to jump on to xbox one and use it as a dev kit for kinect etc . Do love that ps4 controller mind !! Anything down the line other than GT7 to tempt me ?

Getting a console for the described purposes would be a total waste of money. You can do a lot with the kinect on PC and a chrome cast will serve you fine for media on your TV.

But I also wouldn't get a 970. It also wouldn't be worth it.

Tbh if you like Racing games the Xbox one currently is the best bet. The only racing game of note on the PS4 is Driveclub and well that's just a disaster still opening. There is nothing on PS4 to compete with Forza 5 and Horizon 2 at the moment. You can use the Kinect 2 on the pc as well if that is of interest to you ?

With the specs you have already, What's your rig look like to look at? new case or something, or psu, braided cables, matching fans? stuff like that. the little things that put a smile on ya face when ya look at it, could have a brand new looking system for the price of a 970..

Console... mehh well, are you ever going to use it? I mean iv not bought a console since ps2, my missis give me her ps3 because she never used it, I played gta 5 on it for 2 days when I was bored and I give her the ps3 back because she wanted it for her Blu-ray dvds downstairs whilst im in my man cave upstairs on the pc, iv needed it back, only good thing about a console was it can play blu-rays etc, but now iv got a Blu-ray drive in my pc and a hdmi to the tv rather than just buying a bluray player for the tv its self.

Third 970, well is anything struggling that your playing I mean really? nothing struggles with my setup and im at 1080, well, its not quite your res its 1920x1080 but still :P your gpu power is double of mine, you will get a better score in benchmarks.. is that worth your missis spending her money on that? unless she gets you a 4k monitor to go with it, then you can say ere come look at this game on the 4k screen how much better it looks! and she will just be like really?? I payed all that money for no difference at all (to a untrained eye, I mean my missis played on a laptop at 20fps at 1024x768 and she cant tell the difference between that and a computer I built for her that runs games at a nice solid 60fps @ 1680x1050... no idea how anyone cant tell the difference but there ya go)

fourth question so to speak, why get a computer related product for xmas? yeah we love that sort of stuff, but your specs are decent enough as it is, go to Egypt for a week or two in jan its 30c+ and its bloody nice!
