Hey Guys, hope you are doing well. Just joined the forum :)

Recently I've gone back in to PC gaming after 5 years on consoles and decided to build my on PC. Was wondering what are you guys thinking about the set up or if there is anything to be improved

I5 4690K
MSI Geforce GTX 980
8GB RAM

Is there any point overclocking GPU or CPU ?

Welcome.

You will probably get more useful answers in the General Hardware forum. Here in General Discussion you are likely to be given advice involving obscene acts with your letter box...

You have two threads OP?

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18636452

EDIT: from other thread;

"Yeah, why not? Pretty much free performance, however if you don't feel comfortable doing it either you could learn or leave at stock
I'm sure at stock you'd get beastly performance anyway

What resolution will you be playing at? What budget for these parts? And what motherboard for the CPU?"

To add, what exact RAM were you thinking of?

hi,

I have closed your other thread.

What case, PSU, drives do you have?

What resolution do you use to game with?

Have you bought these parts yet?

Is there a budget if you haven't?

@ stulid already got the whole thing, iv got cooler master case (the one with bunch of see through holes) usually playing 1080P dont really expect 4K as i dont have a 4 K telly

Ok.

Theres always a point to overclocking as its free performance.

But you shouldn't have to do it yet as that system will not struggle with any of today's games.

Do you have a SSD?

was thinking about it but at the end its just boost for the system not really the games right ? on top of that ive blewed the budget anyway on this pc 1k GBP hope it wasnt a rip off

It boosts games too, more frame rate.

What parts did you get for £1K? careful not to name competitors etc.

not to worry, im sure it would come up cheaper here anyway as its an online store. litteraly the whole PC mother board (asus one bundled with my i5) chassis, gpu. didnt want any DVD drive as im going all digital and 1TB seems fairly large, 750 W power

What 750W PSU is that?

Just to make sure it isn't a rubbish one that won't power a fan properly lol

Any idea of the manufacturer? Corsair, Bequiet etc?

Should say on a sticker on the PSU itself, perhaps on top or most probably the side

@Shivy011, I just any 750 W power as ddint think it would affect performance

Hmm, can you find out exactly which one?

If it's a poor PSU I wouldn't trust it with even a fan as if it does blow up, it may take out other components with it so you end up with 100's of pounds of paperweights :(

A poor power supply will course stability issues and all sorts of things. Also if it goes pop it will take your system with it.

in terms of overclocking, with that low vaultage on gpu and stock cooling on cpu, should there be any issue with overclocking ?

No.

Overclocking can be done without adding voltage or add voltage.

The stock cooler will go so far, but there is a limit.
