The English Football Association has been accused of flouting bidding rules in its attempt to stage the 2018 World Cup - but 2022 hosts Qatar have been cleared of corruption allegations.

A Fifa report says the FA behaved improperly when trying to win the backing of a key voter.

Qatar faced a number of claims surrounding its bid, but the Gulf state is now in the clear.

Golly gosh! I for one would like to thank FIFA for conducting this fair and transparent report and am relieved that only one country tarnished the image of football. I'm thoroughly ashamed that it was us. I think we should invite Vladimir Putin himself to tell us how to run our national game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we're clean as a whistle here - our links to Jack Warner during the bidding phase are dubious at best. Though I'm kinda re-assured by the fact we seem to be so bad at bribery.

You've got to love FIFA.

Everyone who reads this report will know it's all BS. We all know Qatar is corrupt and the World Cup there is going to be a shambles.

Fifa officials fly around the world in their private jets expecting to be worshipped during the bidding process and woe betide anyone who doesn't do it.

Next time we should book Septic Bladder and his chums into a Travelodge just outside Watford when they come knocking.

Damn they aren't even hiding what is "expected" at this point.

Not only that but people keep ignoring that Fifa's mandate for 4-6 years going into the voting was to take the world cup to new places. England stood a 0% chance of winning. The corruption comes from the people who got paid to run the bid who got paid highly and wasted millions in afaik tax payer money because they purposefully misled the government into believing we had a chance to win.

We had no chance, people conned us into bidding while they got paid and went around pretending they were working on a genuine bid for a year or two, then we also tried to bribe at least one person to vote for us, the most corrupt person in Fifa... then we failed and cried corruption. Why wouldn't the people who misled us to get paid highly scream foul when we didn't win the bid, deflecting attention.

When will people focus on this, we have effectively be conned then when the con failed rather than look at the conmen they said "hey, wait, look over there"... and an entire nation fell for it, it's embarrassing.

True but the "if you can't beat them, join them" approach is also wrong.

FIFA now resembles the Mafia rather than a sports body.

Blatter is the Godfather, propped up buy despot football association around the world desperate for cash, and partial to the add brown envelope.

They're enough to keep him in power, they get their money, he get's his, FIFA get theirs... everyone is happy right?

The FA would do well to keep their mouth shut. World football isn't going to change any time soon.

Russia lost all their emails? They didn't even speak to Bin Hamaam? :/ Not giving advance warning of publication to the FA?

Clearly a whitewash. Nothing FIFA does surprises me any more.

This is a good point, which I think has been overlooked.

It's disgusting, however, that thousands of workers will die to make the Qatar World Cup a reality. FIFA are entirely culpable in this. I'm all for taking the World Cup to new places (Japan & South Korea for example) but it shouldn't go to places with terrible human rights records.

The FIFA fat cats make sure that no mud sticks to them yet again. It was always going to be this way.
