Here's a list of parts I have come up with to beat the performance of the PS4 for the same price. OS does not need to be included.

Anything you think could be changed besides SSD since their performance does not justify their price, at least for this build.

This Athlon runs at 4GHz (title is wrong), as you are getting an GFX card I moved away from the APU.

Actually...I'm not even sure why I put fast RAM in, its not an APU which would benefit.
 
A bit over budget but with ps4 games costing so much you will save the money instantly anyway..

Save £10 by adding the evga psu stulid listed instead, missed that.

I reckon the extra cost of the R9 280 could justify the price over the PS4 since it is the best bang for buck card. As for the hard drive I keep to western digital for brands sake.

Im actually not even sure why I put fast RAM in, it wont need it. An APU does when you use the IGP.

Would 4GB be enough for gaming, since I have no idea of numbers. I just checked my performance to see I was using 3GB on the desktop so I presumed 4GB would not be enough.
 
For gaming 4gb is ok depending on what your playing, the problem is skype, chrome and tabs + any other programs that are constantly running using the memory, check in your task manager what is actually using the ram.

There is a similar thread with the z97/g3258 vs am3+ fx 6300, the consensus is if you go for the Intel set up with z97, 8gb ram and a 280x. In the future you can drop an i5/i7 in when the prices come down in the mm. Would make for a great gaming rig anyway.

I will probably go with a bit more then since my friend wants to use Skype and listen to music at the same time.
