Brands Hatch rogue driver Jack Cottle jailed for eight months

On closer inspection, turns out I am plain wrong.

Any court may disqualify an offender from driving on conviction for any offence, either in addition to or instead of any other sentence. Somewhat surprisingly, perhaps, it is not a requirement of disqualification that the offence is connected with the use of a motor vehicle: the power to disqualify under s. 146 is a general power.

You learn something every day.

What I'm wondering is how he got on the track and what the track's operators have done to prevent this happening again.

5 teenagers died in an RTA just up the road from me in Doncaster last night.

I've got 3 daughters (pity me), one of my biggest fears is that they end up with boyfriends prepared to chav it up behind the wheel.

The sentence is very much proportionate IMO, if for no other reason that he endangered the lives of others. The fact that he endeavoured to stay off the racing line is irrelevant.

Banter gone horribly wrong - LAD harsly jailed for 8 months

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30083726

A man who drove a car on to the Brands Hatch circuit, in Kent, during a race has been jailed for eight months.

At first I thought it was harsh, but thinking about it he could have killed a number of people.

Should he have been jailed?

It was never going to be 'banter', and he isn't a LAD. Or maybe he is, isn't LAD slang for lots of other bad words?

Eigth months for being a "public nuisance" (sounds like a victimless crime if ever there was one) is excessive.

If you want to put people in prison then make it for a real crime like public endangerment or dangerous driving.

It's not his car and he could have killed a number of people...

Could well have gotten off lightly as he's not been given a driving ban, should be jailed though, no one should be allowed to be that irresponsible "for a dare"

Banter?
What is the English description if that word?
Doesn't seem to be related to banter in any way, just some idiot driving onto a racetrack during a race.
Could have caused an accident, probably not charged with road offences as it is offroad, thus public tard is all they could charge him with.
Idiot.

He was driving the car with permission, I assume a driving offence wasn't committed because the penalties for that are worse, and I guess the race course doesn't fall under the road traffic act.

Banter is anything from a quip to slapping some passed out girl with your dick whilst filming it.

It's a rather subjective word used for every conceivable circumstance.

Nice salmon pink polo, or a heavily logo'd Ralph Lauren/Diesel jeans mixed with a couple days in the gym doing arms and chest....BANG!
