Band Aid 30

I always find it disagreeable when rich men like Geldof demand money from us shortly after they have been dropped off from their island tax-haven retreats by their private jets and ferried to the 'show' by top-of-the-range cars.

Look, I'm not one to speak for Sir Bob, personally can't stand the sight of The Douche and Bono's glaucoma glasses make me want to break things, but to be fair - they asked for 99p. Not for themselves, their islands, jets, cars or to teach Ellie Goulding how to carry a tune without going hyperventilated but for medical staff in Africa.

Sadly, media and celebrity interest is often related directly to how 'cool' a disease or cause is. Google how awful and widespread Rheumatoid Arthritis is and you'll probably be surprised by reading how many in the UK have to cope with it

I'm sure if Arthritis had ability to quickly kill anyone who came into contact with recently contaminated item or surface, could spread like wildfire and most of emergency services in your country would try and run away from it rather than towards it, someone from eighties would make a nice 99p song for it too, but at this point I think prioritising attempts to contain deadly super virus from spreading across continent that doesn't have basic access to clean water, let alone universal healthcare vs making sure people with inflammation of joints have enough ibuprofen gel this Christmas, might just be the right balance?

Why do you hate Brian May?:confused::confused:

I bet it's the badgers.

bunch of pretentious runts.
If you want to talk about Africa, this article sums up the situation of such a place.

Oh yeah, darn bunch of hippies, the lot. Just let them wildlings die. Whole 1 billion if needs be. Their existence is of no immediate benefit to any of us personally. If at least they were making cheap t-shirts for Primark or something, right? That'll teach them to be born in civilised part of the world next time. Pffft.

I'm not against giving money, I do donate, but I am against giving money because the cause simply sounds nice.

I give money to Practical Action, which is a charity focused on giving the poorer nations the chance to help themselves, by teaching them better farming, restoring their soil (http://practicalaction.org/turning-compost-into-food), and a bunch of other clever ideas like flood resistant floating farms.
This stuff puts the people back into control, and provides long term benefit.

Giving a few trucks of food or a couple of crates of inoculations to a random African nation just allows them to breed more, with no improvement on their capability to survive independently.

I'm not buying it not because I hate black people/africans, nor that I hate Geldof, nor that I dislike the music (from which I do), nor that I am skint and nor is it reasoning or methodology behind the project - it is because at this moment, I simply don't care enough.

I don't have an issue with buying the single although I haven't heard it yet. It is for a good cause and hopefully it sells very well.

However I do find the hypocrisy quite objectionable from several prominent wealthy musicians (i.e. Bob Geldof & Bono) involved who take part in aggressive tax avoidance. Tax Avoidance ends up costing developed nations billions of pounds and if wealthy individuals didn't avoid tax in the countries they really reside you would end up with with far more money invested into development aid than a few music singles can provide. The two issues are intrinsically linked.

I believe it's morally right for everyone to do what they can for good causes. But it is also morally right that people pay a fair rate of tax and not choose to opt out.

I gave money to Red Cross, ya know, crazy as it might seem but I though it better to give the money directly to the lead organisation who is actually on the ground trying to really help these people.

making sure people with inflammation of joints have enough ibuprofen gel this Christmas

I quite enjoyed reading your post v0n, and I see from the above section that we are in complete agreement in regards to my final point! :)

Somebody explain to me please why so many people think Geldof is a god… All I see of him is a rebel without a cause.

I don't know anyone that cares about Geldof at all. He has just been in the right place at the right time and made a ton of cash. I don't know anyone that considers him a "god"...

Why do you 'hate' people who have lots of money and give their time to publicise worthy causes?
Is it jealousy or is there some reasoning behind your hatred?
So much so you maintain a top list of hate.

I'd be happier if they paid their share (as they often get paid for the time they give to charity) as well as asking everyone else to.

Original song sounded so much better, maybe its just something i remember hearing a lot from my childhood but all the other versions are just "meh".
