Will UKIP win its first seat in parliament tonight?

Whether you agree with their policies or not, it's hard to argue that they'd be able to form a competent government. Their 'gene pool' is simply too small. The current government is full of people who are well-educated and have experience in running large organisations. Beyond Nigel Farage, who in UKIP has the necessary skills to run a department?

Most politicians have little or no experience of running anything.

Labour, Conservatives and Lib Dems are all one and the same, you couldn't fit a fag paper inbetween them. Time to try something new.

As Einstein said...."Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

Vote differently next May...see how it goes. I am.

I don't think UKIP could run much either, but haven't David Cameron and George Osborne literally never had a job in their life?

Thing is, this first sentence is lifted almost verbatim from Farage himself.

3 flags, he's obviously never been to northern ireland, union jacks, ulster flags, independent ulster flags, irish tricolors, scottish flags, even palestinian and israeli flags depending on where you go.:D

I'm not going to serve as an apologist for the silly Labour woman (wow, that interview snippet is painful to watch), but I don't think she should be now encouraging "people should fly the England flag with pride" (part of her apology). St.George's Cross and Union Jack, yes. St. George's Cross and Three Lions, well, tacky, but ok. St. George's Cross on it's own is rather tainted now and has only one meaning?

There is a settle difference between displaying your colours, banners and emblems in part of the country where separatism is part of every day life and allegiances and modern day vassalism have a role and underlined meaning vs preparing similar displays in part of the country where old banners are linked to sectarian display of power.

Now, someone with good eye - can you tell me what that sigil is - bottom flag out of three in her photo. Looks like golden tower, hammer, some inscription. It's not Rochester F.C., it's not Gillingham F.C., it's not Rochester's crest, it doesn't look like Kent's heraldry.

Thing is though would she have resigned so easily if she really didn't mean anything by it?

I know if I was mistaken I wouldn't back down until I proved my case.

O God do people really see the St George cross as a BNP thing? Damn the bnp!

just spending a mere 30 seconds reading about that and seeing the image imediatley gives off the impression that she was condescending about the average UKIP voter..

this is quite the interesting thing isn’t it, the position were in now? Where Labour are supposed to represent the people but the truth is they have a snobby disconnect and disregard for their core voters like any other elitist non representative party.

Labour have nothing it would seem they are a complete failed mess of conflicting interest and ideology

And you just made the same mistake as she did, by making the same implication

Yes, about 24% of Englanders interpret St.George's Cross as sign of "racism and extremism". 39% do not associate it with national pride when they see one. Some British Future survey published in Telegraph.

How did they come to that conclusion ? The people I mean not the survey.

I'm just wondering with the whole UKIP thing. Lets say if the majority wanted UKIP in power does this still make them a loony party? Well, yes, I guess. But what's wrong with that if people want it? It does annoy me, a little bit, seeing UKIP getting the **** taken out of them when there are real people with real problems who feel UKIP can help them. By making fun of the party you make fun of all those people too. Whether UKIP are or not a loony party what right do 'those people' have to take to **** out of UKIP and it's followers?

I would hazard a guess that the majority of supports are pro anti-immigration, pro military spending through the roof and "let's bring Britain back" (whatever that means) but their vision is clouded beyond that and they just focus on what makes them angry at the moment and waive all logic of the bigger picture.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of UKIP supporters are educated in general politics and believe in them, their policies and agree with their stance as a whole. But most of them? I doubt it.

So 76% of people doesn't see it as sign of "racism and extremism" and 61% associate it with national pride. Doesn't sound like a cause to give up on the St George cross in my eyes.
