Floppy or not to Floppy?

Hi All,

I was just wanting to know how many people still have a floppy drive on their rigs these days? I ask the question, as I still have one on my old rig that I am using since my laptop went up in smoke

Should I disconnect it as I never hardly used it anyway or is it best to just leave it incase I might need it? The reason I ask this, is because I always have a clone HD backup in case of a crash.

Your thoughts please.

I think the last time I needed a floppy was when I was installing XP and it needed SATA drivers.

The last time I used one was about a month ago. That was to secure erase and format some old floppy disks I had, before binning them.

A bootable USB pen drive would be far more useful than a floppy boot disk. Seriously? A floppy drive?

I too have a USB floppy drive. It's in one of my crates of components.

I even have one of these. Only connects to parallel, and drives II think are now non existant!

Not strictly true but to be fair its not common.
I still use a usb floppy on occasion as some of the lighting desks I use still use floppy drives to load new personalities from and also to backup shows.
I wouldn't bother sticking one into my rig though.

I guess my old rig is way past the times then

"God" I can't wait until I have enough dosh so I can start to build my new one, and yes I too have a USB stick so out goes the floppy later. At least it will clear-up some space, I just hope the massive spider has moved out when I take the side panel off.
