Noob question.

I've fumbled my way through learning to dock and frameshift and finally got the scanner working which has been enough to get me to 40,000C.

Should I upgrade the sidewinder or keep saving for a better ship? What should I be upgrading first

Depends on your gaming style

If trading get enough credits to buy hauler + insurance + cargo load

Grind that for awhile and then get some larger cargo racks I believe it can take two eight ton racks I ripped everything out of my hauler and had cargo load of 24 tons

So just started playing this as I discovered my original kickstart pledge gave me gamma access! Picked the imperial bounty hunter start and saved up enough to get a kill scan warrant searcher thing, but how do I get the big bounties?

If I hang around the nav points I get into numerous fights but often the bounty is like 500-1000 credits, barely enough to repay my ammo costs! But I don't have enough reputation to take any of the missions on the boards either so kind of stuck?

And with only 2 cargo hold I can't do any trading either!

On a cobra you convert those two eight ton cargo racks to 16 giving you 32 tons plus empty bays can hold a 4 and 2 giving you 38 tons of cargo space plus you can rip out certain items for more space if wanted like Shields & basic scanner

What kind of sound setups are you guys using? Headphones etc

I'm using Kingston Cloud with Xonar DG and sounds pretty good, but may upgrade if it's worth it.

I can't let my speakers go to be honest, 2.1 with crisp sound and good bass them feels :D I do have a webcam with mic that I use for voice attack can't recommend that program enough!

Just thought I'd pop this in here for anyone that hasn't seen it yet. I travelled out to Betelgeuse to take a look at the star, as a few other explorers have done and commented that the size doesn't "feel" that big.

My own experience flying around near it was a little different.

Yep, the flares were indeed animated - the one in the screenshot wasn't even the biggest! I did at one point fly through a curving loop flare - no damage from it thankfully, but such an impressive sight.

I do have a video up on Youtube too -
. Gives you a good feel for it. Also shows how difficult it is to get away from these beasts if you get too close!

Awesome. I've made a note to try and visit. :)

I have already asked Mrs B to get me the Thrustmaster Hotas for Xmas.
Should be a fun learning curve, being left-handed.

For those who are starting out with the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X, here's the bindings I'm currently using that seem to be pretty good. I changed a few bits up from someone elses I found on the ED forums as it made more sense to me this way.

Certainly beats the presets that the game defaults to when it recognises the stick! My hands only leave the stick and throttle when in the galaxy map, although I'm half way through binding those controls to the stick too for fully keyboard/mouse free joy.

The only part I don't think is that great is the silent running button. I haven't found all that much use for the "combat modifier" group of buttons yet (I've only really had one set of weapons, and have done 1v1 fighting mainly) but I'm sure they may cause a little bit of trouble when wanting to change fire groups quickly and accidentally going in to silent running when attempting to fire could be a problem - have a fiddle :p

Well I made it to Sol - flew around Earth and looked down at where I live. Cool !

Got some nice A grade upgrades but nothing really to trade that I could see easily.

I'm still at a loss how we have ships that can jump light years yet NO WAY of knowing what neighbouring systems are selling and at what price :-(

Kind of don't want to grind much more until the progress I make doesn't just get lost.

It's been a nice break from world of tanks and I'm really looking forward to the proper game starting :-)

How have you got multiple controls mapped onto the same button? Have you got the throttle side buttons set as some sort of toggle for the 'function sets'??

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm using the Eagle though which doesn't seem to have many other options for it. Got up to "mostly harmless" combat rating now at least!

By using them as shift/function keys, yep. It's as simple as when assigning a button, just pressing the desired group/modifier button on the throttle before the one on the stick. Works a treat.
