I got flashed by a traffic light camera this morning, but I went through whilst it was still amber. There was a car behind me which went through aswell, and judging by its distance from me, it would definitely have had to passed whilst the light was red. There was also another car adjacent to me on the left lane.

Assuming, I did actually drive through whilst it was amber, would I get a ticket for someone else going through on red? Or do traffic light cameras actually track the specific car in question and ignore other cars already in the junction?

Would really appreciate some advice!

Of course, but just wandering what happens to cars already in the junction but a car behind you is flashed. Does everyone get done? Surely this must happen quite frequently.

Isn't the offence failing to stop before the line? I think the camera has to take a photo of the car crossing the line, so if you were actually fully in the junction when the lights were red you should be OK.

Damn cameras, gonna make the next two weeks annoying as hell. Normally very careful with traffic lights, but I simply did not have enough time to stop when it turned amber. Hope its the car behind me. :(

The cameras don't usual activate until the lights been red for a few seconds. How fast were you going? Some do speed as well as red light.

It's this camera:

It flashed twice and as you can see from the picture, is pointing towards the line at the traffic lights, which leads me to think it is maybe both a traffic light camera and speed camera.

When it first flashed, I was definitely within the junction and I definitely did not see red before I crossed. The car behind me was probably 2-3 car lengths behind me. I'm not sure about my speed, but I was following the general flow of the traffic at the time (less than 40mph) and did not speed up (didn't need to as I was very close to the traffic lights when they turned amber.

The camera is armed up to ~1 second after the light has gone red, so as long as you were over the 2nd set of sensors after the line then it's more than likely the car behind that was flashed.

Also the amber is lit for 3 seconds before red, so you do get a little warning...
