"It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And, while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we're disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public," a representative said. "The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we're excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin's Creed Unity for players."

The original story is below.

2015's Assassin's Creed game is set in 19th century London--the Victorian Era to be precise--and will be called (or is codenamed) Assassin's Creed Victory, according to a report today from Kotaku. The game will reportedly be released next fall for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, according to a source.

Kotaku's source says development on Victory will be led by Ubisoft's office in Quebec. This is notable because it's a shift away from Ubisoft Montreal, which has been lead developer on most major games in the series since its inception in 2007.

The site's source also says Victory will be the only major Assassin's Creed game out next fall, and that it's coming only to current-generation consoles. This is a change of form from this year, as Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed Unity for current-gen consoles and Assassin's Creed Rogue for last-gen.

Predecessor Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag was released across console generations.

A seven-minute "target gameplay footage" video of Victory shows off an in-development version of the game that Kotaku reports runs on Ubisoft's Anvil engine, the same technology behind Unity. The video reveals a sequence that sees an unspecified main character running through London and jumping onto a train to fight off Templar enemies.

It also shows a new grappling hook item that could have a dramatic effect on gameplay. According to Kotaku, the grappling hook allows the main character to attach to almost any surface, allowing the player to quickly close in on a target or escape with great speed.

We have reached out to Ubisoft for comment, and will update this story with anything we hear back.

The first thing I think when I see this is Unity. I know Paris and London are very different cities, but Ubisoft seem to have managed to turn both of them into drab, procedurally generatred disappointments. I want to be proven wrong, but this doesn't fill me with hope.

London will be pretty cool but I would liked to have seen Japan or something a bit different. Really just looks like Unity DLC from the video.

It will likely be based on the Unity engine and be a horrible mess. As per my comments in the Console thread for this, Ill wait till after release and the inevitable post launch embargo for reviews to be lifted before purchasing.

Another thing that bugs me about this is what he's wearing. The assassins are supposed to be invisible, yet it 19th century London, he sticks out like a sore thumb.

I would be more excited by this if they weren't pumping out a new game every year, can't help but think this won't be anywhere near as good as it should be.

Oh look another AC game, same engine and the last AC game, same issues, same old Ubi!

Avoiding...

Really? The last one has been out less than a month...

Ubi really don't learn do they, stop pumping out **** games every year for the sake of it

Victorian London sounds like an amazing point in time. So much they *could* do. So much they will probably mess up. I've not played an Assassin's Creed game since Brotherhood. I wish they would slow down on the release cycle a bit.

Given it will be based on the Unity engine, it will probably be buggy, unless they can total fix the Unity engine.

Well, if it's been in development for a few years, it might be better...

Aside from the bugs, is Unity actually any good?

I am done with this series. AC 2 was good, 3 was awful and 4 was excellent but at the end of the day you are doing exactly the same thing in all of them. It seems that they are just using the series as a cash cow and not actually doing anything different apart from the location.

This basically. AC2/revelations/brotherhood were great, fantastic setting, graphics and gameplay.

3 was pretty boring, not played 4 yet, and have no interest in Unity whatsoever.

Seems like they're running out of decent settings for them as well... what's going to be next, Assassin's Creed Vietnam: You Weren't There Man! Edition?

Only played the first two and thoroughly enjoyed them. They all seemed a bit gimmicky after that.

The setting alone could sell this to me, but if it has any of that illuminati alien templar crud in it still I'll be staying well clear.

Unity was in development for a few years too. They all are, they just have enough studios to stagger release cycles. Aside from the bugs, I found nearly everything about it to be boring or monotonous. I thought AC3 was bad, but I'd say this is worse. In my opinion, Black Flag has been the only decent one in years.

The best AC was the first one. Everything about was fresh. The mechanics where new and the graphics where awesome for the time.

I remember when they demo'ed it for the first time. Things like riding on the horse and scaling the walls and assassinations where all new mechanics for gaming.
