*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

So you can upgrade exotics to 320 attack/defence, but it costs an exotic shard and you have to level the ***** thing up from scratch again :|

Best to not upgrade anything until patch is out....oh and if you're close to a new vanguard level, best hold off a bit so you can get a commendation when patch goes live.

And in 1 move they have turned me from looking forward to the DLC to not even wanting to play the game any longer.

I have almost 20 exotic weapons and almost all the exotic armors and they expect me to level them from scratch again, bearing in mind they took 200k exp EACH to fully level, are they ******* serious? I've even spent the past week or so leveling 4 new exotics that I had gotten thanks to the new material buying making it much easier and now that has been a complete waste of time, glimmer and materials. I just hope I am completely understanding this wrong because to get my stuff back to being the best it could possibly be it's going to take me millions of EXP and the max you get from bounties daily is 20-25k if you're lucky. This is just my current stuff never mind wanting to level new exotic armor/weapons.

Well I'm just glad we found this out before the DLC dropped because that's just saved me a bit of money if all this is true, as I said I could be wrong, but from what I'm reading it's looking doubtful.

Yeah, you're wrong. You don't level it from scratch, you lose your perks but the damage is an increase... even without upgrades. So your max'd 300 attack becomes a fresh 302 (out of around 320) attack without perks. I got my ghallahorn yesterday in the nightfall and it's max'd out today. Hardly going to be the end of the world to upgrade them is it?

So the pre-emptive plan for the DLC is:

Get vanguard/crucible/faction ranks to the last little bit of xp before it ranks up.
Farm glimmer and glimmer giving items (axiomatic beads, house banners etc)
Don't use ANY exotic cores until the xur release
complete a full set of 10 5000xp bounties and don't hand them in until tuesday

Then, come tuesday, smash your vanguard ranks to get the commendations. Buy legendary gear with new stats. Start levelling them up with saved bounties or wait until friday and use bounties on your existing exotic items.

I really need some xbox friends who have this game.

XBO users who play this, add me: Rybo89Lew05

I need to start doing the weekly heroic strikes and nightfalls, impossible on my own.

Guess Ive got 140k of glimmer and 280 strange coins to farm then - fun times ahead!

ps3ud0

So I'm not wrong I just worded it badly, by starting from scratch I was meaning having to redo all the perks again, I could care less about the damage it deals when being reset it's losing the weapon perks and having to redo them all over again that is rustling jimmies right now.

I mean what's wrong with Xur just adding another upgrade onto the end of the upgrade tree that say takes a certain amount of EXP and a new material to upgrade it to it's newer upgraded version? I mean that would make sense right? I would have no issue doing another single upgrade at the end, but losing progress on current weapons and having to do them again when I'd rather be spending time on new content isn't my idea of a good time.

My idea of the DLC was to introduce new fresh content into a game that is seriously lacking it and now it just seems I'm in for more grinding of things that I considered done.

Also you upgraded 1 exotic in 1 day well done, now do that every day for the next month and see how much fun you have grinding the same stuff AGAIN, not to mention all the materials, glimmer, exotic shards and strange coins you would need, nah not an issue what so ever.

I am one shard away from maxing my gjalla, I'm assuming it has to be maxed before you can do the 300+ upgrade anyway....so it's costing me two exotic shards just to get the upgrade and reset, and presumably another one to max it again.

I'm kinda coming round to the idea though, of having a smaller number of more treasured exotics, instead of everyone having a vault full of them.

Really hope I can get my warlock on a hard run this weekend and get the damn boots. My hunter still hasn't got any raid armour, and raiding is still going to be quicker than...3 vanguard levels and an exotic helm upgrade.

Anyone noticed you gain a lot more experience playing PvP now?

I've dedicated my Hunter to be a PvP monster and with new armour and exotic helm, I level majority of perks within 15 games. I did went on rampage for like 7 of those games at 5000+ points. Still, don't normally level up that quick without handing in bounties.

Sorry was in raid and then did nightfall. Can help tomorrow if you are around? 8pm best for me. PSN; AStaley.

Thanks for the offer bud, I managed to complete it yesterday. Thorn sitting in the vault now ready to be swapped for a required exotic shard lol

Having read it’s only the perks on the gun/armour that get reset, then it’s not as bad as first thought, still a bit of pain depending on how many you have to upgrade . Although with the amount of Glimmer were going to need I’d wish they’d up the cap from 25K, seem such a low cap and why have to there in the first place?

If you dont care about the damage, dont upgrade them... simples. Also, it's couldn't care less. If you could care less it means you actually do care somewhat, which is the opposite of what you're trying to say ;)

See the problem you're having is understanding that i won't ever bother upgrading every exotic. You're the sort that upgrades everything for the sake of having it upgraded, where as i'll only bother doing the ones i use. This will ruin your collection and make you feel like you've wasted your time. In reality, not many people have fully upgraded every exotic. Hell, i've had suros since it was sold by xur and i only just got the focus fire perk last week! Gjallahorn, ice breaker and suros will be the ones i do again straight away... then the rest of them as and when needed. It really isnt hard to equip an exotic when handing in some bounties, especially with a telemetry turned on. Takes one quick smash through of bounties to get most of the perks back with a telemetry active.

The problem you've missed is that other guns, like legendaries will now mostly be lefg behind. Fatebringer, VoC, these will have no place once the higher level exofics and new legendaries are available.

The new Exotic upgrade path is annoying (why can't it just be additional upgrades to unlock rather than having to unlock everything again)but I will only be looking at doing 3/4 max based on my current load out.

Most of the time I run with legendary primary and heavy so I can run Icebreaker.

I am with you on the Glimmer cap increase though. The IB clearly showed this was a problem.

The vault space also needs to be increased to factor in the new weapons from the DLC.

The raid legendaries will do the job for normal raid and new nightfall etc. We've got 4-5 weeks to get geared up before hard unlocks.

It's not clear if the vendor legendaries will get you to 32 though? I'm guessing that will be reserved for raid great

i have the same view, plus xur got to sell the same weapon to trade in. :(

sounds a bit rubbish but I'm still gonna play. i really enjoy the game.

it will add value to exotics again. xur and exotic bounties have made exotics too common imo (I'd only have two exotics weapon and armour without them!) but its a tough balance making content accessible for people who cant play as much.

I thought it was only Exotics that got the Att/Def buffs? And I assume you can still only equip one at a time with the DLC. If all legendaries stay at 300 Att with normal upgrading, why would Fatebringer, VoC etc have no place?
