Shocking CIA torture report

A declassified summary of the committee’s work discloses for the first time a complete roster of all 119 prisoners held in CIA custody and indicates that at least 26 were held because of mistaken identities or bad intelligence.

Yikes.

A "little torture" huh? I'm not quite sure you realize the extent of just how horrific some of the methods used were.

Either way, the opposite could be said to your arguement... I'm sure your attitude would change if one of your loved ones was wrongly accused and kept in a tortue prison the last decade

True. I guess there are many ways to look on a person as "pompous". Maybe I'm a a little out of touch as to what that might be in this day in age.

I love the way these forums bring out the polarizing in every single direction humanly conceivable to the point where your calling for folks to be tortured. I mean, yeah give woman rights, let them drive, save gay people, but to do that, all we gotta do is a wee bit of indiscriminate torture.... nice, real western enlightenment right there.

Not to say anyone else is better, but, "pompous"?

I suggest you read the Guantanemo detainee list on wikipedia. Many people are completely innocent.

For example, the US offered bounties for the capture of the Taliban. Many people were just sold as being in the Taliban, including a 12 year old kid.

Many people were renditioned in places far away from any warzone, kept imprisoned, eventually released back to their country where they became free almost immediately. That includes many Brits.

The evidence on some detainees is so weak or nonexistent that the evidence listed is having a Casio digital watch. Something apparently used a lot by terrorists (and millions of other innocent people).

A lot of these people claim to have been tortured as described in this report.

Many people have died at Guantanemo Bay (suicide or otherwise), and you have to wonder how many were innocent.

Exactly.

This isn't even about torturing "bad nasty men". This is about brutal torture techniques used on completely innocent individuals.

It's absolutely horrific and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to take a serious look in the mirror

Nothing shocking or surprising about this, can't believe people would think this stuff never happens?

And Im on the CIA's side, I hope they can continue doing what they were doing.

And I hope they wrongfully detain you and woppy101, then you can come back here after years of torture and let us know if you still find their methods as appealing.

Damn hypocrite.

All these people saying this is justified and calling for more of it are just narrow minded scumbags in my view. They wouldn't last an hour in these places, let alone months or years.

Have some damn sympathy. There are innocent men who have been tortured and had their human rights violated in the name of "protecting freedom". Do you not see the irony there?

How would you feel if someone came to your town and because of suspected terrorists operating in the area, you had your son or father taken away? No trial. Nothing. Just years of torture and their lives ruined at the end of it.

And you can justify and condone that sort of thing? Sick.

my way of life

edit: that's a proper sith sort of question, man.

edit edit: I prefer absolute questions like:

"Would you rather eat ten gallon of sewage of have your writing hand chopped off?".

It has about as much weight as your one, phil, but less xenophobic.

ok then devils advocate question:

their way of life or our way of life ?

we cant have both, so what will it be ?

What are you on about?

Are you trying to take an incredibly complex series of situations and events and dumb them down into a ridiculously generalized question?

As if in some way applying that to stop terrorists invading the UK we need to torture people (including innnocents) in the most inhumane methods possible. All the while spreading more fear and hatrid.

Is that what you're trying to do?

Damn hypocrite.

You are hoping for a other citizen, a british one at that to be arrested and then tortured?

I find you to be the biggest hypocrite here, possible sick in the head for wishing such a thing on a other person.

You should be on a terrorist watch list.

I can't tell if you're trolling or not... Or just trying to be a smart ***.

Wouldn't suprise me if you were actually being serious, given some of the replies on here.

Either way it was meant figuratively, not literally. Perhaps that part was above your intelligence level?

Yeah, but I bet he had a beard, bowed his head towards a point on a compass a few times per day and lived in a part of the world where bad things happened. :)

and if you were born in that part of the world then that would probably describe you too.

The police have arrested people for much less for things they have said on twitter and facebook or have you been hiding in a cave these last few years, maybe you have... signed up to ISIL yet?
