NVIDIA is reportedly preparing to launch its mid-range GeForce GTX 960 graphics card some time in January, 2015; according to a SweClockers report. The card could be launched in the sidelines of the 2015 International CES. The card will be based on the company's new GM206 silicon, and it won't be a cut-down GM204. Its only specifications doing rounds are the memory bus width of 128-bit, and standard memory amount of 2 GB. Out of the box, the card could offer performance comparable to a GeForce GTX 770, with much lower power draw, and a $200-ish price.

2GB and only 128bit bus but will be fine for 1080P and sub $200 is ideal for a light gaming PC or a budget build.

£152 is what it converts to in our money after adding tax.

Probably come in at the £175 mark, which would be nice but AMD's 285 looks quite nice at this point with 290 not far ahead. It's a close battle around here.

128 bit bus and only 2GB. Not good at all.

This is different to the last rumour which had it at 256 bit bus and 4GB on the GM206 with the 950 being 192 bit bus and 3GB. But cannot seem to find it at the moment.

2gb for a graphics card nowadays is pointless. 3 gig should be the minimum you are looking at to future proof yourself. £170ish for the 960 is quite expensive too, even if it is a Maxwell chip.

It's like the AMD 285 all over again...:o

128-bit for the 750Ti at sub £100 was ok, but for a 960, and at £150-£170? Nope...just nope.

At least make it 192-bit like they did for the 660/660Ti...

If this rumour is true then it could be good news for other things as it means that demand for the 970 and 980 has peaked and now NV are looking elsewhere for more sales.

This could bring forward the arrival of Big Max by a few months.

Actually I was more thinking along the line that once the 960 is launched, Nvidia would probably be giving the 970 a price bump...

Looks like the 960 may be quite a step down from the 970, but I wonder if a cut down GM204 will still appear as a 960Ti or even in 6 months time as a 960 SE.

The problem is Nvidia don't have to try too hard. A 960 priced at £170 offering 770/280X performance would be the best card at that price, just.

GeForce GTX 970 sells for $329 (~£250 in the UK)
GeForce GTX 980 is $549 (~£400 in the UK)

We are likely going to see a card around the $219 mark (~£170).

I wonder if it will be received as the new mainstream killer card, like the GTX 460 did back in the days.
