How do we allow the world to be like this?

You make me sick, are you honestly that pig ignorant?

Take your pants from your head and step away from the Guardian.

id love to take away your lovely stable lifestyle and see where you stand then.

I bet you would, however that doesn't change the fact that despite these wicked efforts of the Illuminati and the Lizardmen, he and his peers are yet to feel the force of their Machiavellian machinations.

I think Lima was making a reasonable statement. There are obviously problems on this island, poverty, education, lack of equality however it is not anything like what is going on in some countries out there.

I don't think it was meant as a statement of superiority or degradation against anyone.

How do we allow the Governments that supposedly look after us to be controlled by large businesses. The Governments are supposed to be looking after us, what's the point in having a democracy if it only applies to certain people with lots of money?

A good example is the food industry.

I have been watching a documentary called "Food, Inc." which explains how corrupt the American food industry is, with the Governments being regulated by the people who only have the industry's best interests at heart. Workers have no rights, animals have no rights and it is allowed to continue.

Similar things are happening in the telecommunications industry, with net neutrality and a massive amount of other industries too.

From what I understand it's not as bad in the UK but it still goes on.

How has it got this bad? How have our Governments allowed this to happen? Things need to change.

I try not to watch many of those documentaries anymore because it just p****s me off and there is nothing you can actually do about it.

What a wonderfully broad outlook you have.

1000s of kids starve each day all over the world but My friends and I shop at M&S so... :p

:D

Shouldn't laugh really either but its true. On the flip side, only the strong/intelligent will survive...

Yes, if you are born in a place where there is starvation it is going to be bad (really bad) but if everyone that was born survived or was born in a place where you could get food from M&S every day, then the world would be totally screwed

Underdeveloped regions of the world are that way for a reason - They have not been developed by anyone! They may be dry and not be much food but most places do have resources. Dubai was once a desert until someone decided to look for oil, now its doing slightly better. All it takes it knowledge and someone to do something about it instead of constantly breading when hundreds or thousands of people die every day

Slightly back on topic though - Whats bad about the food industry? I thought price of food is going down at the moment?

OP is talking about our government/ US governent..... Yes, our government and society has faults but it's still one of the best all round in the world.
Wake up, man.
The UK plc is one of the worst governments in the world.
With duress, we register our children into their opressive society, and they are forced to do as they are told and pay taxes for the rest of their lives. That isn't freedom, that is slavery.

You think that makes it one of the best still?

Any developed country requires taxes from it's citizens - how else is the upkeep of the country paid for?

Besides, whether you think tax is justifiable or not they are not forced to do sa they are told and pay taxes for the rest of their lives. They have options open to them to emigrate elsewhere if its that much of an issue.

I heard there is a great country you can go to with a good quality of life, low crime, a fantastic government and best of all absolutely no taxation.

Or not.

What do you mean 'their society'?

most the people on this forum are pretty comfortable in life and couldn't really give a crap about the average working mans plight.

Well you wouldn't know about the 'working mans life' (can you define that?) either considering you're on disability benefits and don't work.

I'm impressed someone else has watched that documentary, I thought it was very good.

I've posted it myself before too here and mentioned it in many posts here and there in different threads.

Basically OP the world as we know it is run by a select few, no it's not time to grab your tinfoil hats people but lets face it. It's true.

Big corporations are run by a handful of people and they pretty much control everything you are exposed too. The news outlets for example, I had to laugh at the sun attacking Russell brand recently calling him a hypocrite over some housing tax or something because he lived in a nice house in London.

He responded with a video how could they call anybody a hypocrites giving a lot of examples such as private schools etc, how Eton is designated as a charity LOL funnily enough where all of our "Government" were educated... nice.

(Said video, say whatever you want about Brand but all he is doing in this video is laying out certain unsettling facts and at least someone who is a public figure is finally speaking out).

We must do something about all of these highly educated people in positions of power and decision making!

Sigh......

Personally I find capitalism is the stupidest thing ever - its like a dog chasing its tail - in the rush to enrich itself it destroys the very value of what its using to enrich itself :S if there are any other civilisations out there they must laugh at us for how stupid we are.

Capitalism worked for a while, it served it's purpose and allowed us to advance and build the society we have today. But like everything it gets taken too far and has a shelf life, it's time for something new but who knows what.

This thread has had some really excellent responses thus far, so thank you everyone.

I am not trying to come out as a socialist or a communist (in fact I actually support the Conservatives) I just think the whole system, whoever is in power, is open to exploitation by large businesses who the average person are essentially powerless to remove.

The whole point of a democracy is that everybody has a say, I don't think that fundamental right is being realised, especially in America where most of the so-called "regulation" bodies are run by the very people they are supposed to be regulating.

I know it all comes down to money and that things aren't going to change (right away) as that's how the world works, I just think that we are in a pretty bad situation with how decisions are made. These decisions are endangering the world and its people and things just aren't right.

Realistically, the system we have I suppose is the best of the worst - that's what a democracy is often described as - but surely there must be something better?

I would recommend watching Food, Inc. by the way, really fascinating stuff.
