Breaking News: Hostages taken in Sydney

Hopefully nobody has been harmed, it's better if he gets arrested & imprisoned as he's clearly a danger to the public (it also reduces the chance of him being viewed as a martyr).
 
Apparently 4 hostages are seriously injured. BBC are reporting the gunman is dead, they are saying he was believed to have a shotgun.
Hope the injured all recover.

If he's not dead I'll be amazed.

It's things like this that make me wish there was a god. The way everyone goes on about their religion, their god is benevolent so I would love for ***** like this to find out that they have shamed their god and spend eternity suffering.

Or, more in line with my atheism, I truly hope at the moment of death they realise there is no god.

"This really reached this critical stage where we heard a lot of yelling, we heard a lot of banging and then repeated gunfire ... I'm not sure whether it was gunfire or some other incendiary or explosive device, perhaps some sort of a stun grenade.

"But there were plenty of those volleys. It lasted probably 15-20 seconds and a lot of flashing lights as well.

"Five minutes before .. about five people left the Lindt cafe with their hands in the air. Again, with a lot of yelling and screaming as well.

"By my count, and I should stress it's just by my count from what I could see, but we've seen probably a minimum of 10 people leave the Lindt cafe safely when you include the hostages we saw released earlier on in the day."

Not really too sure why they'd use incindiary or explosives in a hostage situation. I just hope nones badly injured physically.

Those were flash bangs. If not that was a hell of a lot of bullets for one bloke.
