Nah, getting more and more ****ed off with this I'm afraid.
I've just "saved and exit" after spending 20 minutes trying to dock at a space station.
I'm at landing pad "2" and i'm using the map to guide myself in - I'm perfectly positioned and all I do is hit the surface and bounce - no docking message.
So I fly off and approach again and the same thing over and over.

So damn frustrating as I was so looking forward to this. Cancelled my subscriptions to everything else and I'm finding my docking ration about 1 in 5.

There's a guy on Eurogamer with the same problem: maybe you?

I'm a rubbish pilot and I've never mucked a landing up yet.

Could you talk us through your landing routine?

Docking checklist:

1) Request docking at less that 7.5km - any more and it'll get denied, once accepted you'll get a countdown timer and pad number show up above your main radar. The small radar to the left will also now point to the pad.

2) Ship lights on - you may not feel you need them but if it saves you getting rammed only once you'll be thankful.

3) Landing gear down - check the indicator light on the right under the fuel gauge.

4) Pad orientation - inside enclosed stations I've yet to see one facing anywhere but towards the back, ie; you are correctly orientated as you enter the station through the entry port. Outposts and others - the control tower should be in front of you, blast shield behind and the 3d hologram of the pad and ship should show you pointing forwards.

Misc -

You WILL get a loitering warning if you are at the wrong pad, do NOT ignore it.
You only have limited time to dock, if you are running short vacate the premises unless you wish to lose your ship, modules and cargo.

Changelog: :)

Hi everyone,

Day 2 of Elite: Dangerous being out there in the real world, and we already have a little update for you all. See the full change log below:

• Removed "Elite: Dangerous 1.0.0.0" version text
• Fix one cause of infrequent disconnections during hyperspace when server load is high
• Fix an infrequent system map crash related to data associated with specific systems
• Fix some debug strings being shown in slave-related mission descriptions
• Fix some ambiguous galaxy data in a small number of regions
• Fix two different very rare networking crashes
• Diagnostics to help track down one cause of disconnections following server island migration
• Diagnostics to help understand some graphics memory allocation failures
• Diagnostics to help track down systems with possibly inconsistent minor faction data
• Diagnostics to help understand if some bounties aren't being awarded

Hope everyone's enjoying the game - thank you so much for playing! The development team are still hard at work, and appreciate every tiny bit of feedback seen on the forums. Thanks again.

With the landings another tip is if you look at the glowing yellow box you should be facing the numbers so they are at the back end of the yellow box. Also the litte mini scanner/direction indicator (top left of the main scanner with the little blue dot) will show you which direction the docking pad is in.

You can set supercruise and hyper space jump to the same button in control options.

I would forget the 150k assassination missions until you are well upgraded ship wise!

Just discovered rare commodities, buy some Chi Eridani marine paste for 790 credits, sells for over 8000 credits a few jumps away. No idea what it will sell for if i travelled the whole 160 LY :o

Only down side is waiting for the stock to fill up in stations (can buy 1-10 of them every 10 mins). Not a bad way to make money if you are an alt tabber or afk'r while stock fills up and don't mind long trips. :)

The overshoot loop of shame! Lol! I think I've yet to get anywhere without looping.

Your speed indicator has a thin horizontal bar that slides up and down as you adjust the throttle.
Target your destination, then move the throttle up until this horizontal slider turns blue. Leave it there and just head toward your destination.
Your speed will increase at first, but as you get close to your destination you will automatically slow down to the appropriate approach speed.

NOTE: If your flight path takes you too close to a notable mass (including larger ships), the mavity will affect your speed and *may* sometimes throw the auto-speed thingy off, resulting in an overshoot. However, this is a far rarer occurrence than with trying to manually govern your speed.

Also, for those having trouble docking, a friend of mine did this video:

Check the contacts panel should list faction as pirates I think

Yea, still never seen on! I got an option of killing authority from some random guy for the same mission. But I'd rather still hunt pirates. I might abandon it. It's taking me HOURS to find anyone in this method. Really not working for me and I'm getting bored of just jumping into 10 instances at a time before I finally find anyone or anything to do with my mission...

Grrrr. Really annoyed :( was loving this but it's getting real tiresome fast.

Why can't I jump to my destination?

I want to go to wohler terminal, its in front of me but 35.3ls/1.2 days away. I'm in Super cruise ( I think) but not getting anywhere fast.
