There is a bug where you jump into a system and no suns or planets come up for scanning, normally when the server is very busy it can take 5 min to give you the option to actually target and scan anything.

Firing off the discovery scanner does nothing when its lagging

That is interesting because I've found nothing in 6 systems and youtube guy got 4 objects in first scan.

Just solo'd an Elite Anaconda in my viper. 140k for mission reward and 58k bounty. Am pleased :D

I've been ignoring those missions because I'm a massive pansy basically. Hearing this gives me a bit of courage... How far have you upgraded your Viper? My current assets stand at just under 1 million credits and it's the only ship I own... Weapons/modules loadout?

Thx for the help, but I've uninstalled. Will come back to it after xmas when I get my Hotas X and just watch youtube videos until then.

You strike me as a little bit... Impatient? Have a hard time on day 1 so come on to a forum swearing, ranting and raving then uninstall it within 5 minutes? Do you the sort of person that goes through controllers a lot when getting beaten in online console games :p?

I jumped into a binary star system, scanned the star I jumped near to, but firing the discovery scanner didn't reveal anything else in the system. I found the other star by flying around in super cruise for a while. Again the discovery scanner does not pick up anything else, planets or anything in the system and I've been cruising around for a while.

I played the tuts a lot so know how to fly, manage systems etc but as far making actual progress in the game, its very frustrating. I am loving the game though, oozes quality, just requires some perseverance for the first few hours.

Nearly ran out of fuel going for a multi jump run to look for non lethal weapons, managed to find an inhabited system at the last minute, then on my way back I got interdicted by a harmless wanted anaconda, had him down to 87% hull and similar power distributor in my nearly stock sidey when the feds jumped in and ran straight through my lasers, instantly making me wanted, that mechanic sure needs adjusting... :D

I'll try in solo mode and see if it makes a difference. I presume you'll always get top dollar because not sure if NPCS also sell system data so you're always first?

Chortle: I hope none of you young 'uns try Divinity: OS.

You'll be asking for help crossing the space-road next ;)

Seriously, just watch a couple of YouTube vids and you'll work it out.

(If I can, anyone can!)

Its good advice, and I plan to. But should I feel I shouldn't need to, maybe I'm lazy these days as so many games help you along your way to begin with.

I am a lot poorer than you hehe, i only have like 350k! My viper has 2 class 2 fixed pulse lasers, 2 class 2 gimballed pulse lasers, k-warrant scanner, cargo scanner, re-inforced alloys, d3 power plant, d3 thrusters, c3 fsd, c3 power distrib, d3 sheilf gen, c1 sheild cell bank (but i dont know how to use this properly lol) and 2 x4 cargo racks.

The guy I went for is called Anders, as long as you don't let him point at you it's pretty ok. He did get me down to 33% hull but after that he didnt seem to do much.

Your "current assets" must be greater than 350k... it's the current value of everything you own, cash, cargo, modules, ships right across the galaxy. Look in the right hand panel in the "status" tab, you'll find it first in the list in the statistics section. I have hardly any more upgrades than that but have around 1mil in assets... only 200k cash, meaning my ship is worth about 800k! Still pales in to insignificance compared to the true 1337 boys :p

I've selected my scanner and it appears above the two cannons in my HUD. How do I activate/use the scanner? Can't see a keybind for it. Is it as simple as pointing the crosshair at a star and pressing said key? And that awards credits right..?

When going against Anacondas make sure you target their power plant or FSD because you'll take them out faster. I find an Elite Anaconda pretty easy now tbh...In my (heavily upgraded) Cobra they don't usually even knock out my shields. I'm hoping they bring something bigger out for a greater reward.

Your discovery scanner is really for use in supercruise while you zoom about - you fire it by pressing whichever button you have bound it to in the fire group it's in. Check in your right hand panel to adjust this. You fire it like any other weapon or scanner such as kill warrant or cargo scanner. It will detect any undiscovered objects within I think 500LS for the basic one, and further for the upgraded ones. This just means that they will now appear in your left hand navigation panel - as "unexplored - and you can scan them properly by going within a certain distance of them (different size/mass, different range) and you should see "scanning" in the bottom left hand corner of your HUD and a noise going. When this completes the title of the object will change from "unexplored" to the name of the object and some details about it. Scanning these objects properly like this makes more money, but is obviously time consuming as you have to get quite close to most of them (within 10LS for most) to begin the proper scan, and it's pot luck whether they're worth more or less than others. Metallic asteroid belts for example, will be worth more than some resourceless moon!

Thanks, it charged up with a blue charging bar, it also says contact lost/found above it. And a number 2 I believe in a blue hexagon next to the scanner under the cannosn in the right side "pop up" display.

The "getting in close" scanning works irrespective of your actual discovery scanner I believe.

:Edit: Contacts are normally other ships dropping in or out of range of your sensors, you should get a big blue flashing load of text saying "X objects discovered" when you find new things with the scanner.

I've found you've got to target the planet/star in order to completely "discover" it. Sit close by, facing it with the object targeted, and you'll here a little beeping noise that increases slowly and ends in a chime. It's not particularly exciting, but the credits add up.

I'm loving the game right now, played it a lot during beta and a little during gamma, but now it "feels" right. I've killed a fair few pirates and interdictors in my basic "Pirate kit" Cobra, found a nice little Gold/Food trading run in two small-scale, close-by systems and made enough to upgrade a few systems. Every time I play it, the scale in the Rift just blows me away.

A decent fuel scoop is a must, I think I paid 40 grand for it, but refills the tank nice and fast, and the savings on buying fuel means it pays for itself pretty quickly.

I've not found anything exploit-ish, but the universe feels tuned enough that one can progress at a satisfying rate.

Still haven't seen a single human player though, so will head into the inner systems soon.

I've been hanging out in Croman an empire system. Had a station not far from a resource area where a fair number of "wanted" guys pop on a regular basis, it's fairly non-stop but they're not too difficult.

Just chucking this out there if anyone is looking for fights mostly consisting of Sidewinders, vipers and cobras :)

Obviously this also means a nice local mining area, it's about 64Ls from the station.
