Advice - Stop my corporate auto-lock!

Hello everyone, my laptop has a 5 minute auto-lock period, which is very annoying when using it at home.

Can anyone recommend a SAFE portal app that will automatically move the mouse or press a key to stop the auto-lock?

Portable apps like VLC run from USB drives.

Something like http://www.murgee.com/auto-mouse-mover/ would do the job.

Understand that your company has enabled this to protect you and themselves should you leave your laptop unattended. By using an application like this you are circumventing company policies and this may be grounds for disciplinary action.

Caffeine. Stops your PC or laptop going to sleep.

We use it on some of our monitoring dashboard displays.

Soooo that's acceptable to the company you work for? If you were burgled while you was in the shower while this was running and someone had access to your works vpn or any other secure information because you want it to be more convenient you think that's acceptable?

It may be dramatic but it's also the reason why his work will have this set up in the first place - which means he is still circumventing company policy and could still face disciplinary action.

Unlikely? Sure. But careless or gullible people are the main source of security breaches, not exciting hacks or anything. If he's not using it then it should be locked.

Better check the company rules handbook (if available) , in some I have seen circumventing stuff like this is gross misconduct and results in instant boot out the door

This would almost certainly put you in breech of your companys acceptable computer use policy. Don't be surprised if you end up against a gross misconduct claim if you get caught.

Search on YouTube for "auto mouse mover ". In between the software options (which, as others have said may get you into trouble with work) there are several ingenious methods using oscillating fans, old cassette tape players, and even an analogue watch (put it under an optical mouse and the mouse will see the hands move). These should solve all your problems - no more locking laptop, and if someone ever steals your laptop they will disturb or leave your setup and your laptop will revert to locking after 5 minutes, so is as secure as your work intended.

Someone breaks into a private individuals home to access corporate information over their laptop. And a screensaver is going to stop them? What are they going to do when they spot the locked screen - turn round and go home going "Oh well, that's a bust, better leave".

It was an extreme example but if the OP would risk his job over convenience then all the power to him.
