So i'm waiting on a parcel to arrive today (amazon prime one day delivery). I check the delivery schedule for the parcel via tracking earlier today and it tells me its out for delivery. I check it about 10 minutes ago and it says:

An attempt was made to deliver your parcel. The carrier has left a card at your location, please contact the carrier for next steps.

You what? Uhhmm no card has been left no attempt was made i've been sitting here reading a book waiting on my door buzzer going...

Shocker its Citylink  Its annoying as i specifically ordered this item because i could get it 1 day delivery.

Pretty std for CityLink when the driver decides its home time. I bet he did that to 50+ parcels at the same time

Oh and they are parcel carriers NOT couriers.

In answer to your question, I think everyone gets annoyed when a courier company does this.

Having never worked for a courier company, I couldn't guess whose fault it is. It might be the driver being lazy and clocking off early, it might be the admin staff who assign far too many parcels to each driver that can't possibly be delivered in a single day.

Well i've submitted a complaint about it on their website. Fair enough if i'm in the middle of nowhere or some hard to get to place. But i'm actually barely 2 miles from their depot (where my parcel is now apparently)

And the fact the driver just basically lied....

Your proximity to the depot is probably the reason it didn't get delivered. The driver's route will be a big loop starting and ending at the depot, so by being nearby, you're either right at the top or right at the bottom of his list.

The way it was explained to me once, when I had a similar thing from CL, their system doesn't have an option for "ran out of time" or "clocked off early", the closest thing they can select is "carded".

Yesterday morning I'm waiting for a parcel and I see a DHL van pull up (my computer is right next to the front window). It stays there for a bit, the driver gets out and I go to meet him at the front door but he shoves a card through the letterbox and I immediately open the door calling him back. He said he rung the doorbell but I asked him not to lie because I went to the door the moment he walked up my drive and I rung the doorbell.
This is the second time this has happened but the last time he drove off I was able to stop the driver at the end of my street (it goes round in a big circle.

I try to order from companies that use DPD as they are awesome where I live. Get an hourly slot sent by email or text and it has always turned up within that hour.

I'd be extra annoyed if I was paying through the nose for Amazon Prime and this happened.

I had similar recently for a 24 hour parcel that took 3 days to arrive when both days he claimed he had tried, despite me being in all day.

It was pretty obvious it was all a lie when he did eventually deliver, as he struggled to get his HGV2 down our narrow cul-de-sac.

As above I just think they say it as it looks better than telling his boss he took too long and has half a van full still.

Recently I've had a spate of deliveries to the wrong address (a similar street name nearby).

I don't know why the mods don't just create a Courier Moaning sub forum and be done with it.

:D

Well after basically ranting at an Amazon rep for a good while they did give me an extra free month of Amazon Prime so not too bad :)

2nd attempt for tv delivery is Monday....

This is why I normally order things to work - security/reception manned 24/7 no valid excuse for not delivering - there is always someone at the building.

Get the if you paid extra for prime then get a refund, if you subscribe annually then raise a complaint with them and see what they can offer.

Had this a couple of times , attempt has been made bloke must have knocked on door with a feather i never heard him and no card either.

or more likely somethings gone wrong knows it cant be delivered today so uses this as a excuse.

You don't complain to just the courier company, you complain to the place you bought the items also as the courier is not meeting their SLA.

The whole 'tired to deliver' thing is so they can claim they met the SLA but you were not in.

When did amazon start using city link for Prime deliveries? I thought they used amazon logistics which is normally self employed couriers?

Don't understand why they do this, surely if they go to the door to shove in a card then taking the parcel to the door isn't much more additional effort? Or do they just not want to start digging the parcel put of the pile in the van?

Often the parcel isn't even on the van due to space issues, but they still leave the card so they can say they were there.

Have caught out one or two dropped the card in.

Not very impressed with CityLink. The day I was out they posted two cards through my letterbox which meant they would no longer attempt a redelivery and that I would have to collect from them. There and back it was a forty mile trip.

The system out here works pretty well. The delivery guy calls your mobile number to make sure you are in before trying to deliver. We normally get them to drop our parcels off at our local shop or the security gate for our apartment complex. And the parcels are trackable every step of the way.
