Just purchased and starting installing this now; must have spent thousands of hours playing Frontier and First Encounters as a teenager, very much looking forward to seeing what this updated version is like! :)

lol, I'm in deep with the X55 and now TrackIR. What with alpha access this game has cost me a fortune.

I'm currently at Step 4. Or will be once Xmas Day arrives :)

Pretty sure the Wife will put a stop to any future steps :D
 
regarding open vs solo, say if i have decided to mine an asteroid find 20 tonnes of gold load up my ship with no weapons on can anyone just gank me and nick all my gold then i have to pay to buy my ship again etc ?

Thanks to falling for the hype pre release of the travesty of IL2: Cliffs of Dover I completed up to 9 some time ago :p, Oculus Rift is now very definitely a consideration in the New Year (Read that as just need to convince the misses :p) :eek:;)

Not sure what's led you to that conclusion. I'm currently using a DualShock 3, which is fine and dandy, and am looking forward to my new 360 pad, which is to be a Christmas gift.
 
Finally found the target for my assassination mission, took many jumps and a lot of searching. Quickly left the target alone after her first attack on me. I need a bigger ship!

A flightstick is obviously best but the 360 pad works well, much better than mouse and keyboard imo.

Yep, NPC's can.

But if you watch the radar carefully you can spot people who are going to try and interdict you, if so just drop out of SC (bind a key), quickly pick a new destination and engage SC or HD again, unless they are truly 'elite' they will not have time to follow you find your wake and come after you.
 
I'm so bad at catching cargo, just failed a mission for destroying it as I couldn't catch after 6 attempts. All looks good and then as soon as it's close it seems to change trajectory.

Go mining, trust me it teaches you how to use that scoop otherwise you'll never make a penny. I did mining for about an hour, never miss a thing now!

I was the same till I noticed the blue dot that sits in the screen on the console left of center. Keep the blue roughly in the middle and then fly past it slowly and all should be good.
 
So I've made my first 100K but money is so hard to make I'm afraid to spend it. Im still using the stock Sidewinder. Should I upgrade the Freagle to bounty hunt, or maybe buy a Hauler or Adder? I fancy trying some more combat but with a bigger ship I should get more lucrative hauls too.
 
So, Is it worth getting the game at the moment if I don't have a joystick? I'm thinking of picking one up after Christmas but I'm dying to play the game now.
