I've just been kicked out of a Monopoly game, so since it's the season, I'd be interested to hear other peoples unique Monopoly rules.

We added a new 1 this year, anyone caught cheating (£50) or paying to get out of jail, put the money into the middle of the board. Who ever lands on free parking claims the money.

As the night went on, we also introduced a £20 fine for being too loud.

We play standard rules with two exceptions. Landing on Go gives you double money and all fines from chance/community chest go into the middle to be collected by the first person to land on free parking.

All fines go onto free parking - whoever lands on it takes it all.

I don't think anyone has ever played the mortgage rule properly :p

No.

Besides, Monopoly is the crappest board game of all time. Why not just randomly allocate the cards and jump the 'the trade' - saving everyone over an hour of time of total luck-fest! The winner inevitably being the one who trades with the moron / 'easily bored one' playing.

Catan - now there's a ****ing game. Cities and Knights for the hardcore

The free parking rule which most people play by is also the reason why Monopoly takes so long, which is why people don't like it.

It's a stupid rule that just prolongs the game unnecessarily.

Must complete 1 lap of the board before you can buy property (dont think this one is in the proper rules but we've always played it)

Money from the 2 tax squares goes in the middle to be collected by anyone landing on free parking, never bother with interest on mortgages or property auctions as no-one can be bothered with hassle.

Oh and most important rule of all, under no circumstances do any kind of trade/deal with my mum.

Out of interest, what's the reason for this? My family have a similar rule for me because "I always win". The last time we played, they gave my daughters boyfriend strict instructions not to sell me anything. He did, he lost badly and I (again) stuffed the lot of them which they still blame on him :)

I often find find that girls want to make it a rule that you don't have to buy something if you land on it, I don't see why you wouldn't want to buy something and it just makes the game take forever.

Compared to the rest of my family she takes it more seriously and as per your story usually dupes one of the more laid back players into a one-sided trade that massively swings the game in her favour.

It's a similar story on the rare occasions we play risk, im the only one in our family who enjoys the game and is any good at it which inevitably means everyone allies against me from the start and I usually get knocked out early.

Anyone cheats pays to the middle. If someone nicks it from the middle and no-one notices it, its theirs to keep.

You would be surprised at some of the Ninja's that play in our family.
