Hi peeps trying to find out what the max safe voltage for overclocking the 2700k is some are saying 1.4 some are saying 1.5 but I can't find hard facts

CPU runs great oc'd to 4.8ghz @ 1.360v but I'm pretty sure with a better cooling and some fiddling it can hit 5ghz stable before I even attempt that though I need to know I won't fry it :)

thanks!

Tbh no one really knows what voltage will suddenly send your CPU on a death trip.

I have heard max limits of 1.35v, 1.4v, 1.42v, 1.55v and so on and so forth. What I have never heard is "x voltage set my sandy bridge on fire for sure"

My personal advice is to set a temperature limit of say 85c under extreme load and work from that.

1.4v for air 24/7

not sure with water maybe 1.42 idk personal choice really but I don't like to go above 1.4v

definitely not 1.5v for 24/7 running

I have a decent 2700k which does 4.8ghz on 1.36v. Does 5Ghz on 1.41v with temps below 70C (water). I have put 1.45v through it to get 5.2Ghz and temps are still under 80C but didn't feel comfortable with that voltage 24/7.

ouch that's painful ^

I think when I get a better cooler I might try for 5 @ 1.4 ish but 4.8 for me is probably power enough, 5ghz is for bragging rights ;)

I have just bought a 2600k and would also like to know the tipping point with volts.

on my old q6600 I have put 1.65v through it for benching and it survived, it was water cooler though

depends on the chip, theres no real way of knowing,it just degrades/needs more volts or dies

if on air I would try to stay under 1.4v,if water around 1.42v anything above I wouldn't be happy/comfortable with

have a 2600k that sits at 1.344v for 4.5ghz and a 2700k that sits at 1.36v for 4.8ghz both on air

my 2600k has been at 1.344v for around two years now just fine

but im using offset which helps aswell as its not running full cpu voltage 24/7,less than 1v at idle

Wazza,

What cooler/fan you using to cool both your processors and what temperature are you getting on load on prime 95 ?

A silver arrow,and a d14 (2akasa Apache fans)

Don't use prime much, but IBT Max stress 5 runs I get 81c on hottest core, the one at 4.5ghz hits around 74c hottest core,I'll post some pics when I get time

You want to aim for a max temp of around 70 so you're talking 1.4v ish with a custom loop. Anything beyond 1.4v becomes hard to cool just like > 1.3v does on IB.

Would be very helpful. I can't get my 2700k beyond 4.4 ghz but I have a hyper 212 plus cooler.

here's some pics,i set custom test of 8gb of ram because it takes twice aslong testing 16gb of ram

Those gflops look at little low wazza. I don't know the whether it means much but my 2550k at 4.6ghz always scores 120gflops. I test with 7GB of ram though...

yh its down to hyperthreading,if I turn it off the gflops go a lot higher, something to do with burn test

EDIT: 136 gflops I get with hyperthreading turned off
