Hey guys, well, I just got a GTX 980 and it's still not enough for me, I'm running 2560x1440 and I guess some people will think I'm nuts but I think I'll only truly be happy if I can max all games with minimum of 60FPS and I can't do that so for the first time I'm slightly tempted by getting another card, but I know that stutters and driver issues are or were a concern with doing this.

Is that still an issue and how much of one these days? I will be getting a G-Sync monitor as soon as the IPS or equivalent monitors with this come out, not sure if that will effect stutters at all but thought I'd mention it.

So what are people's experiences with the latest cards in SLI, is it a good idea? Or too much of a hassle?

So long as you are on top of the latest drivers (beta or otherwise) you shouldn't have any problems with it.

Sli G1 970's here & I'm the happiest I've been with my machine since I built it.
It's been through a few GPU's in the last 12 months.

HIS 270
MSI 280x
MSI 290 (2 of these)
Sapphire 290
VTX 290 (watercooled)
Sapphire 295x2 (for 6 days) heat was an issue
2x 970's

I have a 1440p monitor & have to say the 970's cope perfectly with 1440p, even at max settings.

Me, I'm not entirely happy with SLI 970's right now.

Plenty of stutter in the games I play - BF4, DA:I, E:D

Plenty of texture flickering in DA:I

SLI voltage bug makes overclocking more awkward than it needs be.

Think I picked the worst time to move back to nvidia, but hopefully they have an awesome driver update coming soon...

At least I don't get loads of crashes :)

SLI 970's here. It has its annoyances, and not all games support it. I would definitely not describe it as flawless. Even games that support it don't have perfect optimisation so you won't get max fps that the cards are capable of.

I went SLI as I seen it as a better option than a single 980. As soon as nvidia release a single gpu that can come close to performance and bang for buck, I'll be ditching SLI.

And if you go G-Sync with your SLI then forget about DSR as it won't work.

970 SLI and G-Sync monitor @ 4k. Who needs dsr !! :D

Not had any problems yet with 970 SLI loving it. Apart from noise of fans but that will be soon sorted too.

I have had multiple SLI setups. My only advice is never buy a single card with 2 GPUs.

9800GX2 = bad
GTX275 SLI was great
GTX470 SLI was great
GTX670 SLI was great
GTX970 SLI is great.

TBH you'll want a monitor with at least 120Hz if you are going 980 SLI though.

Both SLI and CrossfireX have come a long way and once the drivers are out it's generally faultless.

However you can and will face a lot of issues on new titles.

I am having issues with SLI 980's at moment. Driver update to the latest has caused the biggest issues tbh with random black screens and a lot of games I play are still not supporting SLI. Others have stutter issues.

My 780's I had before were more stable tbh so not sure if it is the drivers or the cards themselves as I haven't looked into it enough. I often just play with one card now, only on certain games do I enable SLI.
