And up next on the news at 12, DC wants to ban iMessage and WhatsApp in the UK

I can't imagine many big businesses being happy about this either, since they almost certainly need to communicate with other departments about various products they wouldn't want their competition to hear about. If Cameron's wishes are put into force these communications will be about as secure as someone shouting down a megaphone

he sounds like a kid who just got his panties in a twist :) along the lines of "boohoho we can't read this, lets ban it boooo baaaa ;( ;("

Imho the 58 million UK inhabitants who aren't muslim pretty much mean we'll never be part of a caliphate we don't need this kind of police state nonce sense to protect us.

What context? The Prime Minister has simply set out what he'd like to see happen, the detail has yet to be revealed. It's perfectly possible to set this up in a way that doesn't allow bungling police officers or council officials to mis-use it.

The context of terrorism and surveillance legislations. It's not about "bungling Police Officers" you give the police a tool and they'll use it in any way that gets the job done, even if they're not using it as originally intended.

I don't understand why so many people are against making it harder for groups like Islamic State to operate in the UK.

Because I value civil liberties and I'll only allow concessions if the case is watertight, which it's not.

The caliphate doesn't necessarily need to be set up in the whole of the UK.

Another great example of how out of touch and technology ignorant these elitists are. Anyone with even a BASIC understanding on how the internet works knows this would be UTTERLY pointless and ineffective!

Now I'm off to browse some websites that DC and his other chinless morons blocked from me (clicks Turbo/Off Road  )

Yayyyyyyy, our country has nothing but absolute retards running it...

It's the classic elitist UK government option of being SEEN to be doing something rather than actually doing something that might cost money or effort.

I think we should just ban the internet... and phones... letters... pens... voiceboxes.

Only then can we be safe.

It does no good for preventing terrorism, Escobar or the medelling cartel, and the cali cartel set up thier own phone networks or bought/bribed thier way into existing ones and avoided the cia for years this way. Ok they were super rich so could do as they pleased. This was decades ago and tech has moved on a lot since, providing many more (and much cheaper) sophisticated avenues of covert communication.

What's to say the current terrorists aren't backed by middle eastern oil wealth, either willingly or by threats.

Yeh, ban whatsapp, that'll fix it.

Mark my words, this is not about security, that's just an excuse - this is about big data, data is money.

He said: “In our country, do we want to allow a means of communication between people which […] we cannot read?” He made the connection between encrypted communications tools and letters and phone conversations, both of which can be read by security services in extreme situations and with a warrant from the home secretary.

'You' can already. 'You' can request the data from the data centre.

The War on PrivacyTerrorlolism!!!

The other day I glanced over a local Newspaper story whilst waiting in a queue and saw that the local Council are now considering using DNA 'Technology' to prosecute Dog Foulers... If only our Govt. could use this technology properly to prosecute actual dangerous 'Terrorists' rather than Chihuahuas with lazy owners.

I really do have to wonder how the two guys who killed Lee Rigby were already on a 'Watch List' and also the perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo/Hyper Mart were also on 'Watch Lists' what the **** is the point of actually 'Watching' people/terrorist suspects anyway?....
