Looking into a GPU for running at 1080p gaming with a max budget of £200

Obviously if a card at £150 would suffice then thats fine and no need to max out the budget

So far its between 5 cards (Others suggestions welcome)

Sapphire Radeon R9 270X
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition OC
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Toxic OC
Sapphire Radeon R9 280 Dual-X
Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 285

Fair enough. Id take the 280 over the 285 as the 2gb of vram on the 285 is pretty lame. 280 should max most games at 1080p. Games like shadow of mordor and the like, you wont quite get there though.

Thats more than I wanted to spend to be honest. I will have a i5 4690k and running at 1080p I thought I could get something that was fine?

Ha!

Well everyone is going to give you a different anser I'm afraid, so your have to decide for yourself.

EDIT - Oh, and a 280 will be more than "fine". its just not going to max every AAA title. But my 7950 (which is basicly a 280) is doing me fine @ 1080p, it doesnt bother me that on the crazy games I have to lower the AA or texture quality a notch or 2.

Hold out for the 960 due possibly this month, just to see where it comes in price wise/performance compared to a clocked 1050-1100mhz 7950/280.

The 960 could be a good buy or the 280 could possibly reduce in price if you're lucky.

I don't mind lowering a few settings to be honest

I just didn't want a jumpy or choppy experience.

After reading online the 960 is supposed to be released on thursday 22nd

I don't think you have to worry about that too much, some of the older cards are seriously holding their own @ 1080p with a few settings turned down, and I don't just mean limping along at 25fps.

So mid range new cards should be breezing it.

The 280X can be had within budget and is the best card out under 200. Though the 290 does sometimes sell for £199.99 and is much better than the 280X. At 150 the 280 is king but I'd wait 3 days now and see what the 960 does to the market.
