Monthly Living Cost (Rent)

There is no need to get all furniture etc straigh away. We moved with not much and have bought things later on. Kitchen stuff I had my knives and mugs when I moved over here but we were living with his parents at the time. In 2 years I have now got too much of everything but dont tell my partner I said that otherwise I have to get rid of something...

My current spatula has melted a bit at the end. Currently going over my finances to see if I can afford to take out a small bank loan over 3 years to replace it. Scary times :(

BrightHouse do a reasonable deal on spatulas - if you buy 2, you can get 10 years interest free, at only* £1/week.

*Plus £30 set up fee, your home is at risk if you do not keep up repayments on your spatula or other loan secured on it.

2 bedroom semi-detached house in Newton (nice estate):

Then I just have everything else on top - food, car stuff, utilities etc.

Rent: 750pcm
Water: 120 per quarter
Electricity (no gas): 62pcm
Council Tax (single person allowance): 84pcm
TV License: 11.75pcm
insuance: 12pcm

Three bed house in Manchester with two adults working full time so out quite a lot:

£1100 - rent
£98 - council tax
£25 - water / sewage
£45 - virgin
£70 - gas & electric
£100 - car insurance
£35 - contents insurance
£12.50 - tv licence
£500 - food

My current spatula has melted a bit at the end.

I kept resting mine on the edge of the frying pan and forgetting. I went through 3 in as many days because I'd melt through them. Now our frying pan has black plastic lumps on the lip.

2 bed semi in Sheffield

Rent - £400 (£75 discount as I have done a lot of DIY work in the house for the LL)
Fuel - £110 combined
Council Tax - £90
Sky (TV/Fibre/Phone) £65
Contents Insurance - £12
TV License - £12
Water Rates - £30

Then you got grocerys ontop of that, as a single person it will be much less than ours of 2 adults and a 6month old

My old frying pan didn't get hot enough round the edge to melt the spatula. For christmas I got a nice new cast iron one, that heats up hotter than the sun.

It didn't come with a spatula compatibility warning, so the first time I used it, I rested my spatula on the edge as usual, and it melted.

I'm currently locked in a heated legal battle with the manufacturer and the European high court!

Why do I feel like we get these threads every month.

It depresses me every time I see everyones rent cost when mine is £1700 for a 3 bed.

Typically for a 2 bed, I'd go with

Council Tax - £100-£150
Gas/Lecky - £80-£150
TV licence - £20
Water rates - £30
Contents ins - £20
Internet - Depends on who you go with

For a typical £500 a month rental, I'd budget for £850-£950 per month for everything and maybe a little extra to cover things you may need.

Mine is as follows:-

Rent - 3 bed - £695
Gas/Lecky - aprox £200 per month in winter, and £150 in summer (I work at home all day)
